Gaumer Charged With Murder
TOWSON, Md. -- Baltimore County police charged a Catonsville man on Wednesday with first-degree murder in the death of a woman whose body was found Tuesday night off a highway ramp in Arbutus.
John Christopher Gaumer, 22, was being held without bail, police said. They said Gaumer lives on the University of Maryland-Baltimore County campus, but it wasn't clear if he was a student.
The woman was reported missing last month in Baltimore City. Police say Gaumer was developed as a suspect in her disappearance and admitted he killed her.
Police spokesman Bill Toohey said Gaumer met the woman on the Internet and took her on a date Dec. 28.
Gaumer told police they started arguing in his car and he left the woman on the ramp from southbound Interstate 95 to the Inner Loop of the Baltimore Beltway. Gaumer told police he returned, there was another argument, and he admitted throwing the woman down an embankment and beating her with a blunt object.
Police haven't released the name of the dead woman.
