'I'm living how I always wanted'

After three years of happy marriage, and getting stressed out by her job in a busy payroll department, she decided in 2018 to turn back time — and live like a 1950s housewife.

That’s when Holte, 30, transformed her Hillsboro, Oregon, home into a suburban shrine to the pre-ERA era, busying herself cleaning, making dresses using vintage patterns — and getting dinner on the table by the time her husband, Lars, 28, gets home from his job as an engineering manager.

How is it "pre-ERA" if she's living how she wants to live. Does "equal rights" not include the right decide with another person how they will live together?

And then there's this: "...the part-time seamstress of 10 years, who sells her handmade garments online..." She works. She didn't "leave the workforce", she simply works from home doing something she likes to do at the pace she likes to do it. She and her husband agreed that they'd support each other the way each wants to/is willing to support the other.

How is this a news article, except that (a) she presents herself as a 1950's style person (I'll bet that laundry mentioned over and again the article is done in a modern washing machine, though), and (b) is probably a really good marketer since there's a link (see it above) to her "handmade garments"?

She seems a pretty smart lady - post a few pictures of nostalgia, and sell a bunch of clothes (think her sewing machine is '50's-era, or modern?).

I don't see where this is news worthy. I am sure many women do the same thing every day.
I am happy that her husband works hard enough and makes enough money to allow her to do this.

So the self proclaimed Constitutional Scholar can't be bothered to read the proposed amendment huh? No dumbass that isn't what the ERA says.

Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.
Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.
THAT is what the ERA says....moron.

You don't understand much do you? Fox and the far right wing of the Republican Party including most on here want to return the 1950s. Women children and minorities are inferior and subservient to the almighty husband/father.

It was a little more than just staying home. She's doing it "50's Style". Decorating, dressing, sewing, cooking recipes from that period. Her whole life is retro. Pretty cool. I'd like to stay home, but I don't think I could do it "retro".

...but from experience, it is not the amendment itself that people object to, but the Pandora's Box of consequences and social ramifications that would inevitably result.

So what would you do if you stayed home?
Stay on the phone all day and play video games.?
The things she is doing are things that women who stay home do. They quilt, they sew, they enjoy decorating the house, and they prepare meals, they watch their own children grow, and they join things like women's auxiliary's. some of them even volunteer.
Staying busy and enjoying doing these things is not retro.

Pssst. In case you didn't notice, she's all decked out and made up like a 50's TV mom. I'm pretty sure that's what AB was referring to.

I have no doubt this is a professional social media influencer. That's all that's on Instagram anymore.

Seriously? You didn't understand what I posted? smh
If you're looking for an argument, you'll have to look elsewhere.

Ah, so, what you're saying is that the article is wrong to invoke the nonexistent ERA at all, and that you are incapable of understanding context of ideas, merely the written word without the broader context. The latter explains SO MUCH about your posts.
You don't understand much do you? Fox and the far right wing of the Republican Party including most on here want to return the 1950s. Women children and minorities are inferior and subservient to the almighty husband/father.

Neither sentence has even a shred of basis in reality, yet it is what you think.

Put this as your signature line because your inability to comprehend context is likely to make you think this is a compliment: your mind "works" in incredible ways.

I think that the likelihood of actually doing things retro is pretty small. I'm going to guess that she has a dishwasher, microwave, modern laundry equipment, etc.

The hairstyle and apron give off an appearance and I would guess that the appearance helps sell those garments.

What in any of that is not already true?

Well that's the thing, isn't it?
It's not the wording, but what people will do with it - like, include women in the draft - it could be used to eliminate men only/women only sports - it could be used to close schools that are just for girls - or boys. And so on.

Like I said, it's not the wording, because it's really not necessary. It's what might be done with it.
