Woohoo, I can make brake lines:)

And by extension, fuel lines:) 99 Blazer blew the long brake line few weeks back, it's evidently a weak point, right where its clipped to the frame by the drivers side rear wheel. Surprise, you cant buy them suckers premade. Talked to Wiengartner, up in Ltown. Guy tells me they just fabricate them from scratch. They dont follow stock routing, since that requires dropping the fuel tank, which makes it almost a sure bet you'll bust a fuel line, or trash the fuel pump, which is $600 for the part.

I knew from my research that brake line was cheap, $11 for a 25 foot roll, and about $70 in tools, tubing cutter, line bender, and double flaring tool. Since I'll need these skills for the Cougar someday, seemd like the time to learn. Finished bleeding the system just now, tight as a drum, all four flares are tight. Four flares becuase I had to make the line in two pieces, with a union in the middle.

I'm pretty happy. Not so much for the cost savings, they had said $260 labor just to fabricate the line, but its always cool to teach yourself a new thing.

Good job, It's pretty cool when you accomplish tasks like this, save money and know it's done right all at the same time. :yay:

Any particular reason it had to be metal or rigid fuel line??

With Fuel Injection (100 PSI lines?) the fuel lines on the bike are all reinforced rubber, with plastic or metal couplings and quick disconnects.. I can take the fuel tank off (after removing the fairing) in about 4 minutes.. An electrical connector, two allen screws and two quick disconnects.. and two vent lines.

I don't see why you couldn't use flexible fuel line/ quick disconnects on a car or truck.. just kinda thinkin out loud..

Not sure, but this was a brake line, not fuel. NOt sure if there is such a thing as flexible brake line, not in a +68 inch length anyway.
