Word 2007 Office

WTH? This is stupid and looks like Greek to me and shuts down for no reason. I'm on a trial version and not sure if that is why.

Anyone using Office 2007 with any feedback? I have the full, :blushing: 2000 Office package, old but dependable. Could it just be Vista maybe? Vista has to be the slowest operating system Microsoft has every made with all the pop up dumb questions, but 2007 is a total pain from what this trial version has shown me. :jameo:

I use 2007 at home with vista and at work with XP. it does take some getting use to but I haven't had any reliability problems with it, it's definitely never shut down on me. biggest pain in the butt is that 2007 files can't be opened with any previous versions so you have to save everything as a 2000-2003 file anyway so everyone else can open it.

I'm glad you told me that, because I didn't know. :yay: There just seems to be too much to the tool bar at the top, so maybe I just need to play with it a bit and get used to it. We use 2003 at the office and I have 90 days to play with this version.

I also have Office 2007 that I use at home on Vista and have not had any reliability problems.

It is true that for older versions to use it, you have to save it in that format. That is almost always true as software cannot be forward compatible, i.e., they know what the newer versions will be like, there just is no way to do that. Newer versions are made to be backward compatible, i.e., they can read whatever comes from a previous version as they know what that format is already.

I hate it. It came on the laptop I bought several months ago as a free trial just like yours did. Well, I gave it the 3 months trial, still hated it, and just installed my copy of Office 2003 on it.

I didn't last that long. I just came back to the forum after installing my old copy and doing a few things I needed to do there, and my son, well, he has a couple of papers he is working on and he wanted his old copy too.

I went from MS2000 to 2007 as the result of the trial program on my new computer. It took some getting used to. I did purchase the non-trial program because my MS2000 disk was corrupted and I had trouble installing it on my new computer. By the time I got that resolved, I had so many files in 2007, it was easier to fork over the money than go in and reformat all the files to the old version.

The trial program gave me fits. Every time I used it, it took forever to load because it wanted to tell me all about why I should buy it. And if I had been using an old 2000 file, and then next used a 2007 file, it didn't want to load and took forever to "configure."

Now that I've purchased the program, and rarely use files that are still in 2000 I don't really have those problems. I've pretty much gotten used to the new program, but I need to take the time to figure out how to change the default document formatting, which I hate.

:yeahthat: 2007 is basically the same.

Pandora, you can minimize that tool bar and customize the smaller bar to have the commands you are used to.

I'm ok with my Vista now.

Thanks, I now don't believe the stability problem is WITH Office 2007, after removing Norton's 2008 anti-virus software and replacing it, things are running much smoother for me, all the way around. :yay:

I was reading the reviews for Norton's 2008, they barely got 2 1/2 stars, terrible anti-virus software. I've used Norton's for years and this is the worst series ever. :boo: I am using Avast right now and when I installed it and did a scan on my desktop, it found well over 30 potential viruses Norton's let on by.

Now both the desktop and this laptop have picked up tremendous speed.

Norton doesn't get along well with other AV programs, so if I were you, I would delete all files associated with Norton and just use the AVAST program, or AVG Free. IT's great too. Norton is known, along with McAfee to miss many virus files coming in.

Vista isn't very compatible to older versions of Office. I had to purchase the trial version of Student, Home Office too to get it to work on my computer. You get used to the differences. I just don't understand why they feel the need to change what works. :jameo:

I cannot believe how much smoother everything is running with Avast. Norton's is completely gone, deleted everything off both computers. I installed Office Professional 2000 (seems like I just bought that  ) and when I installed, I didn't have to remove 2007. I was messing around with 2007 this morning and I'm having no issues now. It must have been the Norton's causing me grief.

Speaking of that, I have some old files that were done with 2000 and 2007 can't open them. Whats the fix for that? I downloaded a reader, but it doesn't work automatically. Can I convert them somehow?

Just ran into that, and found a compatibility button (on 2007) which I'm waiting to hear from my office to see if it fixed the problem.
It is cumbersome until you figure it out then it starts making sense. My son has Vista, Word 2007 and loves the set up.
Have you tried One Note? It's wild! I wish I had this when I was in school.

I have one note, and play with it occasionally, but haven't really explored it enough to use it for anything.

I bought the Home & Student program basically for Word, but tripped over One Note and started playing with it.
It's really neat, if you are doing a project with lots of sources you can set up a bibliography to save them, no problem. I started making tabs and files for business projects and then discovered tabs in my Outlook, Word etc (Office) applications that revert back to One Note so you can save everything in one place.
Now, if I could only get my kids to DO their homework!
