Words You Don't Want to Hear

Unbelievable

Spay and Neuter Your Pets
If I go to another farm and hear, "One of our cats just had kittens, do you want one?" I think I will scream! Three simple words, "Spay and Neuter". I'm sitting here with two 6 week old kittens and 4 four week old kittens dumped at the shelter and, yet, I still hear "our cat just had kittens". Where do you think those kittens go? Just venting, sorry, but for every kitten we can pick up, nurse and have spayed and neutered someone somewhere is allowing their cat(s) to run around unspayed and/or unneutered. . . why?

Some people are just freaking stupid and don't want to pay the extra money to have there animal fixed. Some do the who cares if my dog/cat has babies I can dump them on someone else when they are old enough.

I hear ya. I got a batch of 5 and now 2 more that are feral and there are two more of the feral ones left I am trying to catch. They are everywhere and I guess in between ignorance and denial it is always someone elses problem. I took a wrong turn in Mechanicsville two weeks ago and right there in plain sight was a batch of feral kittens gnawing on some rotten watermelon and bread someone had tossed out. I am still thinking about them and if I dare go and approach someone about trapping them. It never ends! Did you happen to read Kathy Deloziers write up in the Enterprise this past week talking about all the cats out there? There are alot of us around here who do what we can but we are small in comparision to those who think it is someone elses problem. There has got to be something we can do. Alley cat Allies is having a seminar in October and I planned to go but something has come up and I might not be able to but I would surley like to talk to someone who can point us in the right direction to work towards mandatory spay and neuter laws. Keep up the good work! :yay:

What's a TNR?

And what's a RWS?

TNR is trap-neuter/spay-return......because they are wild animals who can't be in a home. However, it keeps them from breeding more.

RWS is Rack'em Want's Spayed but we keep telling him he is a boy and then he just :bawl: and :bawl: so we finally had him neutered.

Next question: What's the difference between Spaying and Neutering?

Spaying is what you do with a mouthful of coke on your computer screen when reading a funny thread. Neutering is like what Switzerland did in WWII.
Least that's what I think and I'm sticking to it. :lmao:

With the general concept of spaying and neutering aside, I simply am not a cat person. They do not like or accept me; I fear them. Having the breed(s) of dogs that I do, it's probably not a good idea to seek avenues of providing a home for a needy kitty. But I will have you know that I did attempt to make eye contact with a batch of DSH black kitties at PetCo the other day. It was a very short lived endeavor.

With that said, kudos to you who bring these wayward sould into your home, however briefly, and treat them with love and humane affection. It's just the right thing to do. :yay:

All kidding aside (and I hope he/she is kidding about not knowing), Spaying = Female and Neutering = Male. . . :flowers: It helps a cat to become a wise and knowing feline without the inherent danger of traveling about the countryside in search of the love of his/her life.

Where are you taking them to have them fixed. I have 4 that need to be fixed before going to a new home.

Hey River, do you know of any TNR's in Southern Maryland that are free of cost? I've been trying to find one for my boyfriend's father's girlfriend. There is a colony outside of her house and she knows of at least two females actively breeding in that area, but hasn't had the extra money to get them spayed. This colony is the same one I took Bailey home from (wish I could have taken his siblings, too...)

First, :huggy: for you for taking in one of them.

I have been paying for my own vet expenses, but that doesn't mean free TNR groups don't exist. I have heard of Friends of Felines in the Calvert area and there are plenty of low cost clinics....such as Pet Wellness in St. Mary's, Lucky Ones in Charlotte Hall, 301 884 2850.

I wish I could be of more help.
