would you buy one of these?

I'd probably opt for one of these if I went that way. Spyder has far more safety and riding control built-in.

However, I test rode one of these and didn't like the cornering at all after being on a 2-wheel for 50 years.

Funny the spyder was the first thing I thought of when I first saw it, I've heard several people say the same thing about the cornering on the spyder

Seems that it does have the whole spate of modern driving aids.........

How does it do in the snow?
Elio has great traction action which enables it to handle nicely in the snow. Additionally, its physical makeup of the front engine design placing the majority of the weight over the front two tires, front wheel drive, traction control, stability control, ABS and a low center of gravity, all help its driving performance in such weather conditions.

I too drove the Spyder, and compared to a motorcycle, it isn't a joy to drive. Way different. Not bad, once you got past those first few miles (30 year rider here) just different. If for some reason I couldn't ride anymore, I would accept the spyder as a suitable subsitute.

The ELio, however, could be a year round ride, no matter the weather. And if the 84 mpg pans out, thats more than 30mpg better than my bike, for about the same cost.

Having Fun!
Only if I was the only one driving on the roads. With the idiots that drive around the DC metro & Southern Maryland area, no way. I'd end up being nothing but a grease spot at the first mistake of those other guys.

......
One big truck would run right over that thing and it would just be a flattened piece of metal.

Same could be said for most true commuter machines, really. And of course, it's making the assumption that you will end up in a crash, an attitude I just don't get.

My first thought too.

I would totally panic just climbing in it and closing it. Its not for me.
