If you owed this year and for the years prior there is a very simple remedy.

Go to your H/R person and request for an extra amount to be taken out each pay period. Calculate based on amount owed in prior years and number of pay periods. It has nothing to do with claiming imaginary dependents.

Pretty much the same if you want a big refund because you can't save. Let Obammy hold the money for you and get interest...still, I know many people who DEPEND on the tax refund to get themselves semi out of debt. They would be living in cardboard boxes without the "refund".

No wonder our country is in the shape it's in.
