Yesterday, I had the honor and privilege of attending this annual event. Please try to attend next years laying of the wreaths, something you won't soon forget!
FYI-2006 marked the 15th anniversary of holiday wreaths being sent from the State of Maine to Arlington National Cemetery. Each year the folks at Worcester Wreath Company make and decorate wreaths that will adorn over 5000 headstones of our Nation’s fallen heroes-in what has become an annual event coordinated with the Cemetery Administration and the Maine State Society.
Yesterday, Morrill and Karen Worcester of Maine provided holiday wreaths for 5,000 tombstones at Arlington National Cemetery yesterday. The Worcesters, who own a wreath company, considered it their way to honor those who fought in long-ago wars as well as modern battles. The Worcesters provided the wreaths for Arlington, as well as six wreaths for each of the other national cemeteries. Each green wreath represented one of the branches of the military, as well as the 93,852 prisoners of war or missing in action who never came home.
The Wreaths Across America Mission: Remember-Honor-and Teach
Remember the fallen;
Honor those who serve;
Teach our children the value of freedom.
