When my husband went to Iraq last year he just bought software for the computer and did it himself. If was pretty easy. I believe he bought the software online. Try using google.

We got ours done years ago and went to a lawyer who drew up the paperwork. We need to up-date it as we want to change the guardian for our kids. There are some on-line websites that let you draw up a will by yourself.

Go See a Lawyer

There are some things when it doesn't matter if you take the less expensive route and do it yourself. A will is NOT one of them. Do it wrong, and you will cost your spouse, children, heirs a lot of hassle and expense. The main purpose of a will is to prevent your survivors from spending a lot of money and hassle on court. A lawyer can do your will right so you don't have to do it again. If married, you should consider a medical power of attorney and general power of attorney too.

It only cost us $50 to have Harris and Capristo do our (simple) wills. That's not much more than the "do it yourself" stuff and we felt it was worth it.

As CRE said, you will be best served consulting an attorney. There's a lot more to effective estate planning than just writing the will. Depending on the specific situation, there are ways of doing things which will be beneficial in the long run and aren't hard to do, but a lot of people just aren't aware of them. A good Estate Planning lawyer should be able to point the relevant things out to you.
