WTF does anyone need the United Nations for anymore?

We have good reason to see that Russia may invade Ukraine any day now - if he's not, he's spending an awful lot of money just to play chicken.
China is looking more and more like they intend to take Taiwan.
And Iran is doing something within the last few days.

WTF is the UN for? "Keep the peace"? Stop wars? Use the pressure of the entire world to stop wars from happening?

What is the point, when wars happen, and they sit on their hands and do nothing to stop it? What nation still believes in them?

The UN has been a corrupt scandal-ridden POS org ever since I can remember. In my whole 58 years, ONLY Trump has pushed back on them, and we see what happened. It's called the Little Dictator's Club for a reason.

At this point - since it appears that Europe will famously do nothing when the tanks roll and the planes bomb -

I think it would be great if Ukraine basically declared at the UN - get out of Crimea, get out of Donbas - you've been warned. You're on our soil long enough.

I guess it chaps my hide a bit to see that after just TAKING an eastern part of Ukraine, they're now using the area to stage a FURTHER invasion.
It would be as though a nation invaded NYC and the surrounding metro areas in Jersey, Long Island and Connecticut (because it's the most populous region in Ukraine, and the most valuable financially). And THEN threatened the REST of the country.

NATO is not going to get involved.
Just like the United States is not going to get involved.

Hard to find countries that have undergone so much incredible pain, suffering and political turmoil over the last century. It never seems to end.

My daughter left Ukraine in January. She's extremely worried about some of the friends she made during her years of living and working there.

A major issue is the Security Council. ‍ Permanent members: China, France, Russia, United Kingdom, United States have full veto powers. Non-permanent members: Albania, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana, India, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, Norway and United Arab Emirates. 15 countries total on the Security Council. UN Charter Article 27(3) states that votes in the Security Council on non-procedural matters "shall be made by an affirmative vote of nine members including the concurring votes of the permanent members"-- this is often called the veto power of permanent members. In other words, all of the permanent members must vote unanimously for the UN to take action. Try asking Russia to vote for the UN to send in troops to stop the Russian invasion of the Ukraine.
