Wyoming Republican Party Votes: Liz Cheney No Longer Recognized as Republican

The Wyoming Republican Party voted on Saturday to no longer recognize Democrat-allied Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) as a Republican.

“The 31-29 vote Saturday in Buffalo, Wyoming, by the state party central committee followed votes by local GOP officials in about one-third of Wyoming’s 23 counties to no longer recognize Cheney as a Republican,” the Associated Press reported Monday evening.

Cheney responded to the devastating vote by calling it “laughable.” Republicans have “allowed themselves to be held hostage to the lies of a dangerous and irrational man,” Cheney spokesman Jeremy Adler told the Hill, referencing former President Trump.

Cheney is facing a tough reelection campaign against Trump-endorsed Harriet Hageman, who is a Cheyenne attorney with a good chance of unseating the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney.

“Liz Cheney stopped recognizing what Wyomingites care about a long time ago. When she launched her war against President Trump, she completely broke with where we are as a state,” Hageman told the Casper Star-Tribune.

I really want to see her sent packing but she'll probably win re-election. There are a handful of people who pay attention, and the rest think the Rittenhouse trial has something to do with race.

This was - weird. I can't recall a precedent where someone was effectively booted from a party for taking a position unpopular with the party.
I'm not crazy with the idea of supporting Trump as being a litmus test for the party. At least - when he is NOT President.

ON THE OTHER HAND - you really can't have an elected official in the party take opposition to the leadership of the party - the President - and not expect blowback. It's sowing dissension. It's weird that this is happening when Trump is NOT President - but it's completely appropriate when he is.

Put it this way - sow dissension and criticize the decisions of your company's President - take the kind of oppositional stance against the head of your company and see how long it is before you're standing outside holding a box.

I've always thought (hoped) the president no matter what party they were was above party business, ie they are the CEO of the entire government, not just their party.

I've always thought (hoped) the president no matter what party they were was above party business, ie they are the CEO of the entire government, not just their party.

I just know that if I ran a small company - say, 100 people - and one person went around openly trashing my decisions, I WOULD be compelled to fire them. My job is to protect the survival of the company. No organization can long survive determined dissension within ranks. And I am not referring to differences of opinion. It's one thing to disagree with decisions; it's another to undermine them willfully.

It is not at all clear to me that Trump is still the head of the party. As President - he IS. As ex-President - not so much.

I was just talking to a family member the other day. I'm not 100% with all things Trump, but I like how he did most things. He was a ruthless businessman, not a politician. If we have a trade agreement with another nation - and they're violating it - like a businessman, he would react and say "you're out - come back when you want to agree to something". He would not crawl to them and offer them lopsided deals just to stay friends. When we had allies not carrying their load - a businessman would let them know the free ride is over.

I LIKED his blunt way of dealing with our presumed friends who take advantage continually of our friendship.
