XM Radio's 60s-On-6 Channel will salute DC's "Top 40" radio of the 1960s on Friday, 4/7, from 4 PM to 9 PM. This will feature memories and jingles from WEAM, WEEL, WINX, WPGC, and more. Scheduled guests include Johnny Dark, Jack Alix, and Harve Moore. This is due to the loss of our last Oldies station this week when WBIG changed format to Classic Rock at 5pm Monday night. I'm sure this is going to be a real trip down Memory Lane!

Keep the memories alive,

Beans and Cornbread,
Beans and Cornbread had a fight.
Beans knocked Cornbread out of sight.

XM 6 is my favorite music station on XM. Also listen to news/talk like Tony Snow and Sean Hannity. Remember, if you don't want to go out in your car and drive it out of the garage, XM is on DirecTV.

In addition to DirecTV, I should have also mentioned that the XM channels are available on line to AOL subscribers, too. I'm going to contact XM and see if they'll be making CD copies of the show available for sale. If so, I'll post the info here, because the program was great. It was a real trip back in time to hear the old DJs from WPGC, WEAM, and others, the old commercials, jingles, and air checks. Anyway, WBIG's change in format from Oldies to Classic Rock is a passing of an era, since there aren't any Oldies stations in DC right now. Oldies 100/WBIG concentrated on the hits of the 60s and 70s, and the new format focuses on R&R from the late 60s to the early 80s.

Last year WBIG cleaned house by letting Kathy Whiteside, Johnny Dark, and others go (as well as Goldie sometime before that?). I have no idea where Murphy & Cash will end up, unless they decide to take their act back to WMZQ. Sad, though, that we're seeing the end of an era, but us Baby Boomers can't stay in the spotlight forever. :)
