Curious as to why you don't like Dell...

Sure, you can build a comp yourself - maybe for cheaper.

But, for the home consumer I see Dell as a good alternative.

I've used Dell/Micron/Gateway comps for years now.

Never had a problem with customer service or the computers.

I will however agree on one point - Vista blows right now...

That PC ? I'd prefer to get a much lower cost desktop and add an HD TV adapter, whether it be USB or PCI. $1600 is lot to spend on a desktop when there are so many less expensive choices.

Best Buy isn't too bad.

Would I buy a pc from them? No... But, for peripherals and stuff they aren't too bad.

I agree with the price.

First ask yourself what you want to do with your computer then go from there. If it's just going to be an email/surfing machine there are other less costly alternatives...

FWIW - I just bought a gaming machine from Dell with a quad core, 3 gigs of ram, 8800 gt graphics card for that price...

After replacing the hard drive in my Dell 3 times first time was 3 days after warrenty, customer service said sorry about that.

I'm on my 3rd IBM laptop, never have had a problem, just updated technology. My first one was a 286 processor, newest is a dual core.

Just bought a Gateway desktop, very similiar to the Dell above (TV tuner, DVD burner etc) Jury is still out since it's new. So far, so good though.

I can't stand dell anymore. I had so many problems when I tried to order from them a couple years ago that I will never buy a product of theirs again.
