Anyone who thinks there's no fun in small-town police work hasn't seen Sgt. Greg Breeden stalking the streets of Haymarket in his new patrol car: a silver 2006 Dodge Charger with 18-inch wheels and a 5.7-liter Hemi engine.
Breeden's new cruiser has been stopping traffic -- literally -- all summer long on Washington Street, Haymarket's main drag. Seen through a rearview mirror, the muscle car cuts a menacing figure, with a toothy grille that looks like Jaws coming up to chomp the rear end off your too-small, too-slow ride. The mere sight of it seems to scare motorists off their accelerators, Breeden says. But if any scofflaw dares to challenge the town's 25 mph speed limit, the sergeant is ready to run the person down with a 340-horsepower engine that rockets from zero to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds.
