Comcast has a connection that is on a pole in my yard that keeps going bad.
They refuse to come out and correct it unless they can get in my house. They dont need to get in my house.
Ive been down for almost three days this time, and I finally got one of my workers to climb the pole and replace the connection for me.
I have done this myself about 3 times a year since I got the service, however, due to my back issues, I felt it best not to be climbing the pole to correct it again.
no more connections to go bad, straight fiber from the street to the inside of my house. and I think they do it underground so no more trees hitting the line either.

i am so jealous!!! FiOS is still not available in indian head! i am so over comcast. the cost is keeps climbing and the service gets worse with each rate hike. it is time for a change.

Fiber internet at the 5meg level is 39.99, then add the Three tvs and their boxes, one of which is Hi Def. I get 180 channels with the service and the total monthly bill for everything is going to be 93 bucks.
right now for the internet connection and my basic plus with comcast I pay 63 a month. but I get nowhere near 180 channels, and I dont have the Hi Def for that price either.

Right now for single home service anything over 5 meg is really a waste of money.
you cant download any faster than the connecting server can upload, since most companies and services are not running fiber yet, your speed is going to be limited by what they can deliever, not what you can accept.
the 20 meg service would be good if you had a bunch of systems running on your connection at the same time, that way, you do have the bandwith to support more systems from the home at one time.
but like I said, at my house I only have two systems connected constantly, and one laptop that connects now and again, I dont really think I would see much difference between the 5 and the 10 or 20 service that is offered.
when more systems in the world are running on fiber, then it might be of some value, but right now, like I said, I dont think that I would realize much of a difference between the two. at least not enough to justify the price hike between the services.

I get 3 meg now with DSL, don't see the point in switching. This is plenty fast for me! Never have any problems either. Hopefully FIOS will be as good. I don't know. I was one of the first people to hook up with the cable modem way back when St.Mary's first got it. It was down way more then it was up! I said screw it and went with Verizon and have been with them every since! I'll never switch again! JMHO

Yeah running multiple services like email, web servers, which is against Comcast TOS - lol i used to get email from Earthlink when i had dial up in 96, i was running Windows NT 4.0 Server for my Microsoft Certs @ the time .... companies such a service then whine when you want to all this extra stuff - like you will ever use the bandwidth - I occationally down stuff through bit.torrent networks and only get about 60k depending on who i am connected to - and gaming downloads are also slow .... plenty fast for me to play online games, but try to host a gaming server outbound is capped @ 340k upload - so much for fast service
