Yet another reason to hate car dealers

Yep, its legal, that dont make it right.

Stopped into Waldorf Honda yesterday, wife wanted to peek at the new Passport. Find it, I park next to it and check the sticker. 38K, notice the Additional Dealer Markup (ADM) sticker. $500 for "dealer processing", a bit high, but normal for regular dealers. As was the "Market Adjustment". What wasnt normal on this run of the mill SUV was the amount. $2500!!! What? Really? Damn. Mentioned that to the wife, who wasnt bothering to get out if the price was too high.....

"Back it up to the CR-V" she tells me, which I do. "Maybe thats more of the size I really need anyway" since the CR-V is smaller than the Passport. So O hop out, and look, and its about 36K, loaded as it is. I look at the ADM sticker, expecting to see maybe half of what the more expensive Passport has............. Next thing I know, I'm staggering back, having a hard time breathing.

$4,300 freaking extra dollars!!!! For a CR-V!!! This isn't a GT500, or a Demon Redeye. Best part?

Salesguy approaches... "Can I help you?" "Ah no, I tell him, $4300 extra? I cannot even talk to you with that number on there" He shrugs and says "Well, ya know", and tell him sorry, I have to go, still laughing.

The new Ford Broncos are finally starting to show up on dealer lots. Most that are available for sale were early customer orders that were cancelled for whatever reasons. Many dealers are adding (and getting) premiums of more than 20K over the MSRP and some reportedly getting as much as 40K!. That's putting the cost of certain optioned models close to 100K total. Insane.

See, I kinda get that, the return of an American Icon and all. The one at Lex Park Ford had 7k in dealer bolted options, in reality about 2k in parts. But this was a friken CR-V...

Yet another reason to hang on to what I've got. I've only had 2 new vehicles in my life. Both bought before kids started happening.

Live Market Pricing at Toyota of Southern Maryland has a mark up of $5,000 on Tacoma's and the sales reps were basically of the mind that you can take it or leave it. I left it because I have an extra car and I don't appreciate being gouged due to a shortage in chips.

Unfortunately, this is actually the truest mechanism of supply and demand. Dealers are not getting new stock, and if any stock does come in, the numbers of units is very very low. Just wait it out. At present, there are millions of vehicles waiting on semiconductors to finish the manufacturing process. So unless they destroy these vehicles, doubtful, when they finally hit the market, flooding it, prices will drop, deals will be made, and to be had, to clear out the brand new, older model year vehicles, to make way for the new model year. Be patient. Or try to find a good reliable used car if necessary. Or, maintain the one you currently have.

I got an offer of $15k for a 15 year old Tacoma with 190k on the ODO, cost $24k brand new.
