YOU are responsible for your dog or dogs deaths!!!..I have a good idea besides ruining the day for my wife and I, that you probably ruined the day for a gentleman in a pickup truck who was covering your pet with his sport coat, but also the woman in the VW that may have hit your pet or pets. Your trying to lay a guilt trip on someone who was probably driving to work and had no idea that your idea of responsible pet ownership is to let your dog or dogs out to roam as they please sucks. I came thru there at 5:55am and saw the above, did you really expect the person responsible to start searching for the idiot owner at that time of the morning?? You are lucky they even stopped and tried to comfort or tend to your animals. You don't have the sense to own a pet, please don't get another. You act as whoever hit your pet or pets went out of their way to do it, I say again, YOU ARE A FOOL..

People are stupid. Tipper was an escape artist. We never "let" her out, but if she "escaped" we were all over the neighborhood in our vehicles looking for her. She didn't escape much, but we would NEVER let her out on her own. I know people that do that. They are asking for problems. I sure miss Tipper.

Give 'em hell, Ot :yay:

It takes some kind of nerve to let your dogs run around, then try and blame someone else because they got run over. Poor doggies.

Dogs get out, it happens. My lab was hit and killed by a motor vehicle in front of my house in Waldorf. Nobody stopped that I know of.

I am thinking the owner(s) are hurt and lashing out, maybe even in anger. This might have been the first and last time these dogs got out!

Sad, but my lab had only left his yard 2 other times (he was 10 1/2 years old) before the time he was hit and killed. I hope somebody who knows the owners or the owners themselves read this and see that people did stop and they did try to help. :yay:

I agree.

I had a fenced yard and my Boogie jumped it and was hit on Christmas Eve. Fortunately though, the lady who witnessed the accident posted signs all over the area and we found him. Obviously, he lived, hence the missing leg though. That little sheyot would still jump the fence with three legs. :smack:

He is still alive and doing well and enjoying life.

Sorry the Jack Russell(s) got hit and died...but sometimes they do just get out :yay:

My goodness.

Yes, dogs do get out. Abbey does even though we watch her like a hawk. Our yard is physically fenced and she wears a collar for an electric fence.

But it is still OUR responsibility. You cannot blame somebody who was doing 50 mph in the dark who probably didn't see two little dogs that ran out in the road.

I don't know who those people were with those dogs the other morning..maybe the were the owners.

The person that made that sign should have left their phone number. Maybe the person that hit them feels horrible...

Just last week I stopped on the same road and tried to get a little Bichon type of dog to come to me. He was running all over..in the road..out of the road. I didn't want to chase him because I was afraid I'd make him get hit. I tried for 45 minutes to catch him. He had a tag. Finally, upset, I had to give up. I never saw him on the road and only hope he made it back home.

No you cannot blame anyone but yourself when your dog gets hit by a car.

The sign, although at first shocking, may be a good thing. Maybe this could be a reminder to others to be more careful and cautious with their pets. :yay:

I feel sad that the dogs got hit and were killed, but the responsibility for this happening rests squarely on the shoulders of the the owners for letting them roam, whether on purpose or accidentally. I am very careful with my dogs and take measures to make sure they don't get loose, but unfortunately my one dog will run off in a heartbeat if given the opportunity but that has only happened maybe three or four times in the five years I've lived here. But you can bet my butt is tracking him to get him back and make sure an unsuspecting vehicle isn't surprised by him in the middle of the road.

Thats so sad. It always makes me sad that dogs and other pets simply don't realize the danger of vehicles and roads. My boyfriend and I work very hard to train our pets not to go onto the road or the driveway.

Some people really are clueless. A couple months ago when I was on 4 headed towards Solomons a Maltese jumped out of a car that was headed north bound on 4. The dog had been sitting on the driver's lap with the window down. Don't ask me how but the dog actually rolled and took off running across the opposite lanes. Thankfully everyone (going north and south!) was able to stop without crashing while the dog ran around having a blast. Everyone started chasing the dog which obviously made the whole game even more fun for the Maltese. Luckily I had some treats in my car and after running away from the dog I got it to chase me and I was able to scoop it up. Somehow the dog didn't have a mark on him!! When I handed the dog over to the owner I asked her what she was thinking letting the dog ride on her lap with the window down. She actually got an attitude and told me it wasn't my business! Meanwhile her dog had just stopped traffic across all the lanes on route 4 because of her irresponsible driving- not to mention the danger she put her dog in when she failed to safely secure it. What an idiot!

:yeahthat:

I'll never understand why people think it is the drivers fault when they let their dogs roam. Too bad there isn't a qualification test to be a pet owner. Of course, we let idiots reproduce so why not own dogs?

This is my mentality. There isn't any reason for blame, really. A phone number would have brought more light onto the subject. It's hard when folks are upset, I know. I try to help wandering souls when I get a chance; I lose functioning when one of my girls bolts.

Pet lovers try their best. Be they the owners or those who try to help the lost or injured find their way home.

I am so sorry someones pets got killed but like everyone says, you have to be really careful with pets. Just this morning as I was leaving the house and walking out the gate, my shepherd who usally says goodby from the top step, bolts past me out the gate in a single blink of an eye. Fortunatly, she not really a runner, she wanted to go bye bye in the car. But thats how quick it can happen. Many many eons ago, I also thought it was nice to be able to let my pets roam at will, till I lost a couple of them and wised up. Its a hard lesson to learn.
