...talk to me about Hollyhocks. I love Hollyhocks and have always had them in my gardens. I'm going to put some in my gardens at the new house, but I've always had trouble with something eating up the leaves (at least I think that's what it is). I've also noticed this with the leaves of Hollyhocks in other gardens. What is this and how do I prevent it?

TIA :flowers:

The gerber daisy should bloom continuously for as long as you see new buds developing. Remove old flowers as they fade. Cut the stem at 1 inch from the bottom of the plant.

Feed every third watering at the medium rate of any good home use general purpose fertilizer.

When your gerger stops blooming and no new buds are available, it is time to increase the fertilizer use to every watering in order to get new foliage growth occurring. Remove at that time also some older leaves as they do not produce any new flowers. In the axil of each new leaf there is a flower bud.

Gerbers make wonderful cutting gardens, flower beds, patio plants and window boxes. They also make great houseplants or can be grown in containers during the winter for cut flowers and, in some cases, may actually save the planet and small children.

Hope this was helpful!

I don't know if it's the same problem you have, but the Japanese beatles tend to eat my Hollyhocks up. Aside from using the beatle bags I'm clueless as to how to stop those hungry buggars.

I don't know if it's that or some tiny, itty-bitty microscopic pest. I don't think Japanese Beetles are out right now and I was looking at the Hollyhocks over at Leonardtown Middle School and they are getting pretty eaten up just like mine used to.

...it's a joke. The gag is you ask me about something I don't know, I start spouting what I DO know. That's my way of not having to come right out and say 'I don't know'.

See, if we're in a car together and it seems I'm lost and you say "you're lost' I'll say...'the gerber daisy is a really cool plant. It can be used for..."

Got it?

I got it the first time, but then I got skeered that my mind can wrap around your jokes so quickly so I tried to deny knowing what you meant. :blushing:

This is my gerber.

There are many like it, but this one is MINE.

My gerber is my best friend. It is my life.

I must master it as I must master my life.

My gerber without me is useless. Without my gerber, I am useless.

I must care for my gerber true...

Try Sevin or better yet diatomaceous earth if you think it's an insect.

Could it be a fungal disease?
