Shopping carts can be necessary when shopping, but in some neighborhoods, they’re just a nuisance.
Rachiel Durant has been living in Chillum’s Avondale area for more than 30 years, and she says she’s constantly seeing shopping carts left abandoned in her community. Whenever she tries to get rid of them, no one takes responsibility.

“It brings down the property value, number one because it’s an eye sore,” she says. “Sometimes it’s hard to identify which store it is because they don’t have their name on the actual shopping cart, but I’ve called them in and asked them to pick them up, and a lot of times they don’t, so you just call and call!”

On Thursday, Councilmember Wanika Fisher put forward a piece of legislation that would require stores to set up anti-theft mechanisms on their shopping carts by the end of next May. Carts will also need to have their store’s information on them so they can be identified.

Stores could be fined up to $2,000 a day if they violate the law.

A Prince Georges County politician, (she means it dammit!!!) is tackling serious problem #1 in the County at the core!!!! Crime? No...Poverty?? no.. declining graduations? NOOOOOO! Hot Rodders blocking traffic for meet ups??? NO...

Shopping carts!!!!!!! Yes, those abandoned shopping carts! Giant, Safeway, WalMart, Warehouse liquors, J.C. Penney's, she's got yo numbah dudes!!!!

Sooooooo, you store managers...yeah, YOU!!!... you are in a tight spot... You are NOT allowed to stop or question or ask the huddled masses for your cart. Look, they are homeless and need to tote their priceless possessions. HOW DARE you stop them. Hey YO Policees YOU cannot ask them to take them back you privileged racists!!!

So...wait...she's not pissed about the scumbags who steal the carts, she's just pissed because stores won't come get them out of her yard??

:roflmao:

That is the most Democrat thing EVER!! :lmao:

I'd say way to pick 'em, PG, but she's a reflection of the district she serves. Which is why she has stolen shopping carts in her yard.

Stores have done this in the past where an. System would lock the wheel up when a shopping cart left store property, and guess what the response was….wait for it ….its racist.

Shopping carts used to be 200-300 dollars a piece. Neighborhoods off great mills road have quite a collection of shopping carts.

For your consideration ...

So that's why so many cart wheels have flat spots causing that extremely irritating thump thump thump while walking the isles? The law of unintended consequences rears it ugly head again.

Why not dump them in the Anacostia river? Sinking old shopping carts can create an artificial reef for aquatic life, as the submerged structure provides a hard surface for marine organisms like corals, algae, and invertebrates to attach to, creating a new habitat for various fish species to live and hide in, essentially acting as a new underwater ecosystem.

Muriel Bowser will help a sista out!

yer onto something there.... look, the homicide rate in DC is climbing and the City cannot afford more John Doe's in the freezer. Look, stuff them carts with "bait" like a crab pot or lobster trap and let her rip tater chip.
One less bell to answer, one less egg to fry.....

I hate the stores that put long poles on their carts so they can't go out the door.. but then again one of my cars has long marks
along the body which i think came from a shopping cart.. too many morons in society.
