Strung Out
...it's not up on line yet, but todays Post has a Marc Fisher column about a man, a lawyer oddly enough, who is suing a dry cleaner for losing his pants.
He claims to have suffered damages by not getting his pants back, loss for his legal expenses, 'mental suffering', inconvenience and...discomfort. Must have been some nice pants, huh? He wants compensation for his time, for leasing a car every weekend for...10 years...and...for a replacement suit.
Seems fair enough in order to make good on a cherished pair of pants. So, let's see, one pair of pants plus the $10.50 alteration that was supposed to be done on them which lead to this travesty and that comes to...
$65,462,500
You think this is a joke, yes?
No. Oh, by the way, this guy isn't just a lawyer; he's a judge as well. Let that sink in.
More? The cleaner gave this guy $150 for his trouble at the time and told him his business was no longer wanted. This was a week, one week, after the loss. The crime? The cleaner's had a sign that said 'satisfaction guaranteed' and 'same day service.'
Well, he wasn't satisfied, at all, and it took longer than a day. I hope you can find this in print or on line. The rest of the story will just make your jaw drop.
