You may have the coffee gene

I'm not buying it. The Brits favor tea while coffee is the drink of choice in the US. Many of our decedents were British. Did the gene mutate crossing the ocean?

You can blame that third cup of Joe on your genes.A recent study has found six new genetic variants that could dictate the volume -- and frequency -- of a person's daily coffee consumption.

According to the National Coffee Association's 2014 drinking trends study, 61% of American adults consume coffee on a daily basis.

When my family was stationed in England, all we did was drink tea. Once we came back stateside, we all switched to coffee. My mom and I will still enjoy a cup of tea, relaxing on the couch before we start making dinner, when I visit AND in our respective homes, so I feel it was a habit we picked up...but not near as much tea as what we drank while over there. :coffee:

It's more a habit of our surroundings  Americans love coffee and I'll pick that over tea any day.

The stuff we'll be learning about genetics, how genes work, what affects them, how, what we can do, in the coming years is gonna be a lot of fun and, I think, answer a LOT of questions.

And, create a WHOLE lot more!

When I see these kinds of "results" it always makes me cringe! We can study genes for the amount of coffee we drink yet... Cancer, HIV, and various other diseases are still out there...

Looks liek the study looked at caffiene consumption and how it affects individuals based on genetics..not on whether they drink coffee vs tea. Both are caffinated so they affect the body much the same..just a matter of degrees.

A cup and and a half in the morning. Whenever I drink tea I feel like I should be knitting a sweater. I do like the tea they serve at Chinese restaurants though. :yay:

Diet Coke is my caffeine fix. I love the smell of fresh brewed coffee, but never liked the taste. Wonder how much that study cost.

Think about how many people would be out of work if we cured them all.

Everyone knows that there is no money in the cure... only in the treatment but, I do sometimes put my tinfoil hat on and wonder if some of these companies have secrets locked away for when the shizz really hits the fan! I mean.. C'mon! We have been researching and throwing money at Cancer research for 50 years and... NOTHING??

Of course they do. That's not tinfoil hat. That's common sense. Consider energy. It would have been FAR cheaper and better had we gone to more nuke power 40 years ago but, it would have eliminated millions of jobs and trillions of dollars. We could have better health now if we simply allowed free market competition but, that would wipe out millions of jobs and trillions in dollars.

The American way is BIG. What is the way to go about anything that will create the most jobs and most wealth? We don't look for the best, cheapest, easiest solution. Unless you're small business.
The federal government could do the same job with 1/5 the money and people but, the 'job' is money and people.

I wish this thread would go away. I've been drinking more coffee since it started.

Amen. Yeah, though thou shall be of good faith, be aware. The dark powers of suggestion are all about us peddling their wares.

OK, I didn't hold back my smart ass comment this time. So, hope it made you laugh a little and not get all like "That's not funny!" :buddies:

Really? Kewl.

I was worried about skirting too close to your new found faith and it coming off as mean spirited which was not my intent. My filter is rather weak and my sense of humor gets awful close sometimes to being mean when it isn't meant to be.

Larry, I didn't lose my sense of humor or sarcasm. I'm just trying to be a better person, and will try not to hurt anyone with either of those things.

And that's all I have to say about that. This is not the religion forum.
