Python devours 17-year-old Indian girl
December 13, 2003
A 17-year-old girl was devoured by a python in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh as her shocked sister watched, it was reported yesterday.
The victim, Guddi, was playing with her sister Raju Devi, 12, outside their home in Unnao district's Ghera village, about 55 kilometres from the state capital Lucknow.
Devi said a massive python suddenly darted out of a burrow, dragged Guddi away and swallowed her, New Delhi Television reported.
Forest department officials dug a three-metre-deep pit near the burrow but were unable to locate the snake. They did find some baby pythons and eggs.
Police said they recovered the victim's slippers and scarf near the burrow.
