Young people have always been influenced by pop culture. Parents probably though Junior was insane when he was eating live goldfish and jamming himself into phone booths with his friends, but that was just the 50s version of the Tik Tok challenge. Parents in the 60s and early 70s were alarmed when young Martha showed up from college looking like the dirty hippie she was, dropping acid and ranting about Vietnam.
None of this is anything new, but I honestly never thought I'd see the day when pop culture would insist that mutilating children and injecting them with harmful drugs was a perfectly acceptable practice. It makes me wonder what bullshit they'll come up with 20 years from now.
