Your gasoline dollars...

Have you seen some of the other work in Dubai? goto maps.google.com, type in dubai, switch to Satellite view, then slowly zoom in. All of sudden there will be these two huge jellyfish-looking developments extending miles and miles out into the waters that aren't in the wider views.. It's amazing...

Edit: after zooming, the structures will be just south of Dubai....

I had heard while in Singapore, that there is a competition for "World's Tallest Building" between Asia and Dubai, both constructing one. Both want the other to finish first, then they can build a tiny millimeter taller and claim prize. I think Dubai is just holding back and blaming the delay on finishing touches.

Does anybody in these countries study history?...or at least geology?
The Persian Gulf...has numerous faults--and every 3-5 years we hear about some mud brick village getting flattened in Iran.

um...let's not tell them, yet.

Instead of spending the money for the benefit of their people: they build Babel.--let them see what happens when we replace oil...or a 8.2 hits.

Actually, Dubai has very little in the ways of it's own Petrodollars these days (although they did well in the past). Mostly its a financial and trade hub.
