A couple driving a fake animal services vehicle have prompted authorities in Volusia County, Fla., to issue a dognapper alert, according to Local 6 News.
Investigators said that a man and a woman driving a truck with "animal control" written on the side of the vehicle allegedly approached a dog owner in Ormond Beach. The pair tried to convice Randy Smith to hand over his 5-year-old Shitzu dog named Cody.
Smith said the couple told him that his dog's tags were expired and that they needed to take the dog.
Smith refused and the alleged dognappers drove away.
Becuase of the incident, police are warning residents to be on the lookout for the suspects' white truck.
Officials said that genuine trucks have "animal services" written on the side and not "animal control." They also have blue stripes and emergency lights on the top of the vehicle.
