Your opinion: Steve Jobs/African Babies

I'm sure many of you have seen this going around the internet. Is this a fair way to raise awareness of the famine in Africa or is it meant to point out the hypocracy of people paying homage to one man, when millions are dying? Is it fair to use the image and death of Steve Jobs to promote an agenda?

My tears for Jobs were also meant for all those African babies. I just like to consolidate and multitask.

Had Jobs chosen to exploit cheap African labor instead of cheap but, not as cheap, Chinese labor to make his products, this would never have happened.

Unemployed Americans need to start caring about themselves and not so much about the Chinese and the Africans. Then, when we get manufacturing back here at home, they'll be able to afford to care.

So, just to make this interesting, please do answer your own questions and take a stance instead of throwing chaff in the air to see what comes down.

Okay, the reason I posted this was because my sister-in-law put this up on her facebook page and now we are in a debate about it. She thinks it's okay to use Jobs' image to raise awareness in Africa and said she would be okay if it were one her parents instead of Jobs. I would be angry if it were my family members picture used without consent.

Steve Jobs' contributions affected the lives of millions of people on this planet. Unfortunately, starving children in Africa have only affected their own. Steve Jobs was a household name. Nobody knows the names of those who are dying in Africa, their lives have not affected us, not to say that they are invaluable, but this comparison is tasteless. People die every second of every day, are we as society supposed to stop and shed a tear for them all?

As a realist, I believe this picture is meant to point out the hypocracy of people paying homage to one man, when millions are dying. I don't believe it is necessary to use the image and death of Steve Jobs to raise awareness of the famine crisis in Africa.

Also, at some point, I think you have to say to yourself "I can't feed myself or my seven babies, maybe I shouldn't have another one."

I don't think it's meant to point out hypocrisy so much as it's a guilt scheme. Tell your SIL that if she feels so terrible about the plight of dying Africans, she should jump on a plane and go help them. Otherwise SHE is the hypocrite who is pretending she "cares" with some FB attention whoring.

I do this with my libby sob sister FB friends, ask them what they are doing about this cause that they care so deeply about. Usually they ignore me.

Exactly! It's her "holier than thou" attitude that pisses me off.

I don't have a problem with pointing out the perspective, sure Jobs death does deserve some attention, but a few people take that a little to far, and people should remember there are bigger tragedies going on in the world.

I'm no expert in Africa, but what little I've seen their problems are NOT poverty, their problem is leaders and/or the people themselves screwing up their societies and having them collapse in on themselves, then you have the starvation.
