Your Pitbull found me, and I won't giver her back

Last Friday night, your dog wondered up onto our porch. Signs of the abuse she had somehow escaped, riddled her body. The fresh bite marks on her muzzle, the scars that covered her body, the exposed pink and purple flesh around her neck, where she was obviously tied up with ropes that cut their way into her skin, over and over again. The obvious signs that she had been bred, relentlessly, time after time. The pressure wounds on her elbows that bled whenever they touched anything, from being tied and forced to lay on cement ground and metal cage mesh.
None of those things are even the worst part. Upon examining her teeth to gauge her approximate age, I burst into tears. I found that you had pulled the majority of them out and the ones you left, had been filed down. And you did this without anaesthesia, this I am sure of. You did this so she couldn't fight back. You did this so she couldn't injure any dogs you had trained to fight, when you threw her in there with them. With each bite of her they took and each yelp she cried, they'd look at you for reassurance. Because all they wanted to do was please you. Loyalty is in their blood. Violence is not.
The first night she was here, I stayed up with her and only slept for 2 hours. Every time I'd move, she'd get up and look at me with worry stricken eyes. She didn't want me to leave her.
Somehow, God must have led this mama to my doorstep, knowing she'd find comfort here. The next morning, I took her to my work on my day off. I work at an animal hospital.
Upon entering the building, her neck started to bleed. The thick collar which you put on her, had cut into the tender scars on her neck. She didn't even yelp. I discovered it as I was weighing her and saw blood on the scale. I took the ridiculous thing off of her.
The amazing people I work with have all fallen head over heels in love with your dog. So when we discovered she has breast cancer, it broke our hearts even more.
Over the last 3 days, our staff has grown to love this beautiful and broken soul. Skin and bones, we feed her constantly but only foods that are soft enough for her... You know, since you ripped her teeth out and all.
Mama lets you get right up in her face. In fact, she LOVES it. She'll give you slobbery kisses and nuzzle your face with love.
We're all amazed at how trusting of humans she is. Dogs however, completely terrify her. It doesn't matter the size, she growls in fear and tucks her tail between her legs. But who can blame her? After what you did to her?
Tomorrow, Mama will finally feel peace. And when she closes her eyes and takes her last breath, I'll be there. I'll hold her big ol head and I'll tell her how much I love her.
And when her soul has left her battered body and I've dried the tears enough to see, I will document every bruise, every bite, every cut, scrape and gash. I'll photograph her teeth, or rather, where her teeth used to be. I'll turn in all the evidence and post it where EVERYONE will see it. I'll use it to educate kids in heavily crime ridden areas, on the horrors of dog fighting.
If you could do that to a dog, you should not be allowed in everyday society. And teaching our children right from wrong is the only way to put a stop to this.
One day, you will be caught. If I ever find out who did this to the dog we all lovingly know as "Mama Jade" I honestly don't know what I would I do. But it would probably involve contacting your mother and informing her of what a monster she managed to raise. My goal would be to make a mockery out of your pathetic life.
Mama Jade's story will not be silenced. She just happened to show up on the doorstep of one extremely persistent, intelligent, respected and now angry human being.

**UPDATE**
Never would I have thought my Craigslist post about Mama Jade would go completely viral. I posted it last night, expecting to receive maybe a few emails about it but nothing huge. Today I have received LITERALLY thousands of emails from people all around the United States. My iPhone crashes every time I try to check my mailbox. The response has been overwhelming and has restored a lot of my faith in humanity. Many people and charities have asked if they could donate funds for Mama to get the treatment for her cancer. Tonight I'll do my best to review as many of the emails as possible and I'll make a decision on what the best route to take will be. One thing is for certain though, Mama Jade is getting yet another chance at life :)
Due to all the requests for a facebook page, one is up and running! From here on out, all updates will be posted here: https://www.facebook.com/MamaJadeNashville

I am sitting here at work crying and praying that Mama Jade can be saved. I am truly grateful that she found you and your caring soul when she needed comfort the most. I will remember this story for the rest of my life and pray that more people will stand up against animal abuse. It is truly a sad day for all of us when situations like this are allowed to continue. Bless you for helping Mama Jade and giving the rest of us hope for humanity!!

It wasn't me, but I share your sentiment toward the person who did all she could.

From the story, I believe Mama Jade passed on. At least she knew a little bit of love before her last day.

Hmm.. I got the opposite from the story. She was going to be put down but so many people offered to help pay for her cancer treatment that they were going to give it a go.

:bawl: What a touching story. I have totally changed my thoughts on Pittbulls in the last year or so. I am really hoping this beauty pulls through.

It's stories like these that make me wonder how people can forgive Michael Vick or allow him to play football again. That loser should still be in jail making little rocks out of big rocks 18 hours a day.

I couldn't bring myself to read the story. So, I will rely on your reply.

Update!

**MAMA JADE HEALTH UPDATE AND DONATION LINK**

Sorry for the wait! First things first, Mama is still alive! I put off giving a health update until we had some more test results back. The results are in and as I expected, this girl has a long road ahead of her. In addition to being spayed, Mama will need to have a double mastectomy to remove both mammary chains because she has tumors on both sides. Her heartworm tests came back positive but luckily, it's in the beginning stages. Putting her under anesthesia will be riskier because she is heartworm positive, however, it's critical that we get the surgery done as soon as possible because one of the mammary tumors appears to be coming through her skin on one side.
Currently, she is on an antibiotic for her elbows, as they were severely infected. She has also been dewormed and given several general vaccines as well.

I have decided to work with a local rescue called Music City Mutts. The reason I wasn't able to set up an online donation site myself was because I needed to make sure I worked with a non-profit that would be able to collect the donations needed for Mama's treatment. Any additional funds raised, outside those needed to cover Mama's bills, will help out more dogs and save even more lives.
Mama will have her surgeries and receive her treatments at our facility, PetMed, so she can be surrounded by familiar, loving faces. I feel that's very important. I've fallen completely in love with this pup and I'm extremely protective of her. Although I won't be able to be her forever home because she needs to be an only dog and I have a dog, I am very happy that I've found a rescue that is willing to work with me and will allow me to make the final decisions as far as her health and adoption are concerned. I'm hoping we'll find the perfect family in or at least close to Nashville.
So with all that said, we need your help! Donations can be made through a couple ways:

1. Music City Mutts has set up an online fundraiser here: https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/dcLcb?psid=d702e045b7444e5593dfcb9df879d438&fb_ref=share__61ijM2

2. Donations can also be sent to PetMed, 1120 Bell Rd Antioch, TN 37013. Please specify they are for Mama Jade and make checks payable to PetMed.

Mama Jade has a chance at a healthy, happy life because of your support. Not only that, but she has the chance to raise funds for other dogs. She's totally unaware of all of this though... She just wants love, comfy blankets and food, which she's been getting plenty of :)

Thank you all, SOOOOOOOO much. It still makes me tear up when I think about the amazing outpour of support Mama Jade has received.

2 weeks, and 133,000 FB Likes later.......Updates:

Mama will be having her first surgery on Monday. The plan is to spay her and remove one of the two mammary chains. After she heals up for 3 weeks, they will do a second surgery to remove the other mammary chain.
Thank you all, for your generous donations and continued support. 2 weeks ago tonight, she wondered up onto our back porch. She had no idea she was about to make such an impact on the entire world. So far, we've raised money that will not only help Mama but will help countless other dogs in need as well That makes my heart smile.

After about 4 hours of surgery and many many many stitches later, Mama is doing great! She's on some strong pain meds, so she'll be pretty groggy/asleep for awhile but she's comfortable and safe. When she finally does come to, I'm sure she probably won't be super thrilled about the cone of shame...
This morning I heard her bark for the first time. She wasn't happy about the fact that she had to have an empty tummy in order to do surgery. No worries though, she'll eat like a queen when she wakes up
Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers!
Much (and I mean TONS because ya'll have been amazing!) love,

Mama Jade and Christianna

Now I'm suspicious. I'm getting more and more wary of all these facebook heart-wrenching stories that then turn into a request for donations. They're everywhere for cancer, funerals, dogs that need treatments, and on and on. From now on, if it's not something local, if it's not something verifiable, I'm out. If it sounds callous, so be it.

Update!

Health Update!!
Lots and lots of great news! We found out that Mama's tumors are benign, so that means no chemo!
Her incision is look great and healing well too.
Since she has the first stages of heartworm (in so many words, she has the baby heartworms swimming around in her blood but they haven't formed actual worms in her heart yet) she has been started on a combination of preventative and medication to start killing off and preventing more of those little monsters, thus making treatment easier later on and preventing the formation of the actual worms in her heart. We are waiting until her surgeries are done and she's fully healed to start the heartworm treatment. A dog's body can only go through so much at once before it shuts down.
Everyday she acts more and more like a dog and she's feeling better and better We have everyone's support and donations to thank for that, so thank you!
Also, I think it's important to add that not only have your donations saved Mama's life but they've also been able to help Music City Mutts rescue 7 pitbull puppies. One of them even looks like Mama, same color/markings on the face! If you're interested in fostering for Music City Mutts, head on over to www.musiccitymutts/adopt and fill out an adoption application (The adoption application is used for fostering too) Mama is still looking for a foster as well, so if you live in Nashville/surrounding areas, don't already have a furry baby at home and you'd be interested in giving Mama a safe, loving place to recuperate, please fill out a foster application and specify your interest in wanting to foster Mama Jade.
Thank you for everything! The care packages, donations, letters, messages, emails, support, love, everything. Y'all are amazing,

Mama Jade & Christianna
