DNR Youth Fishing Rodeos Scheduled for 2020

Program Rounds Up Next Generation of Anglers​

More than 4,000 children and young adults will have the opportunity to catch their first taste of fishing thanks to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and partner organizations throughout the state. From early spring to fall, the state will host 41 youth fishing rodeos in 14 counties.

“These kid-friendly fishing events connect Maryland’s youth to the sport of fishing in a safe and interactive environment,” said DNR Youth Fishing Coordinator Michael Anderson. “Our partner organizations are really the ones who deserve the credit. They help organize, staff, and build relationships with these kids to become not only anglers, but stewards of our natural resources.”

To ensure participants have the opportunity to reel in a catch, the department will raise and supply thousands of hybrid sunfish, channel catfish, and rainbow trout for this year’s fishing rodeos.

Maryland’s youth fishing rodeo program receives financial support from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Program.

All youth fishing rodeo events are free and open to the public; the list of events is posted on the department’s website. Due to space limitations at some venues, attendees should call the individual event’s contact to assure space is available.
