Viewing restictions?

You can't drink in your car; it's not the same as being at home.

Porn watching never killed anyone. I agree that this country is in big trouble but what are our options?

More government control or not?

...making an argument for why people should be allowed to publicly display porn.

I am making an argument for why publicly displaying porn already fits into our public deceny and/or accomodation laws.

People get tickets for playing their radio to loud.

People get tickets for obscene bumper stickers.

Is it OK, to you, if someone walks around the mall with a portable DVD player in hand watching porn?

This is a simple issue of public nuisance.

It all comes down to whether the inside of your car is 'private' property or not.

One idea is that people ought to be confined to the same restrictions that the theatres are, meaning, they can show G, PG, and PG-13 movies, but anything rated R and above should be inaccessible.

You figure for the first 3 ratings, there's always going to be someone older than 17 in the car, and they can 'act as a guardian' for any children younger than 13 in the car, thus making it ok for those kids to watch movies through someone else's window.

Since an R rating or above is not allowed to be watched by anyone under 18, perhaps the drivers of these vehicles should be charged with whatever crime a theater would be charged with for displaying these movies where children can see them?

It's really a tough debate. I can see both sides, one being that the car is private property and you shouldn't be able to police what's going on inside it (assuming nothing illegal is going on), and the other side is that children can easily see the images on the screen, even though they're not supposed to be watching.

Tough question

I answered the first option.

Lets look at it this way. When Elvis came on the scene adults in this country went bananna's! He was bumping and grinding and singing that loud obnoxious music! It was a public nuisance! The Government could have easily controlled this sex crazed maniac!

Thank God they didn't!

...you're looking at this like a lawyer I think.

All we're talking about is very rare instances when some mom notices her kid is peering into another car at a stop light watching Debbie Does Lexington Park. Hopefuly, a cop is nearby and can parent these folks a bit.

darkriver: I'm not grabbing my cell phone at 1am because the people next to me are watching porn.

When I'm at Ruby Tuesdays with my girls and some guy is cussing overtly I'll give him the eye. 9 times out of 10 he get's the message. 1 out of 10 I say 'hey, I got my kids here'. I have yet to meet anyone who didn't have enough respect for us our themselves to say 'oops! Sorry!". When me and the Vrai are at the same place sans brood, we don't even notice.

This is simply common courtesy and common sense.

Our local cops will pull you over and write you up for not wearing a seatbelt. They will write you up for having your tunes way to loud. They will write you up for drinking. The car is NOT your home when it is in public, IE, anywhere but your driveway.

It'll be interesting to see how far y'all can go with this.

I can't tell if that's a complement, an insult, or just a statement.

I agree with you, there should be some sort of rule against it. I was just thinking that if you're going to make a public nuisance law against it, that you might as well follow the ratings systems, just like the theaters do, rather than trying to make up a new definition of what is and isn't ok to watch.

I can take it a step further. What about those indecent women who prance around in belly shirts with peircings? Completely indecent! I say we make it illegal to show our ankles! Heck while we are at it I think all women should cover their faces in public!

Lets regulate everything! Your car is not your property when you are in public! Someone might look over and see how hot you are and get a woody! That would be a major nuisance not only to the gentleman in the compromising position but to his unattractive wife!

I understand your point Larry... I just hope that you remember this the next time you start your diatribe about Government control.

P.S. I know I'm getting to ya. You are resorting to low blows.

He should have had tints, honestly, but these friggin' laws and controls have to STOP somewhere. "The People vs Larry Flint" ring a bell??

...it's a statement.

You are/were trying to look at this, I think, in rational terms as far as 'what to actually do about it' which in this day and age virtually demands a legalistic approach so people who are trying to compare it to Elvis and Gay marriage and walnuts in chocolate chip cookies (definite no no) can't turn something simple into a federal case.

No offense intended!

Yes they do.They do have to stop somewhere.

So how about this:

It's is will known that it is illegal to distribute pornography to minors. You cannot buy it then give it to, or display it to children.

Not even in your own home.

And that's what this idiot is doing. he's publicly displaying pornography to minors. How about they utilize the laws regarding pr0n and minors, and throw his dumb ass in jail.
