Standards for cribs have also changed recently so it's probably best to buy new if you don't already have one. Even a five year-old crib in excellent condition might be considered "illegal" now. Mine is 19 and still sitting in my mom's basement.

You're talking about the drop side cribs. Most manufacturers offer "retro-fit" kits to turn your drop side into a fixed side crib. Our crib is drop side, but we can get the kit to switch it.

Ours is 13+ and still going strong.

I have a bunch of items. Clothing, high chair, jumperoo, carriers, carseat, etc etc. We might be parting with the crib and changing table very soon too.
