Citizens of 2nd & 9th Districts: potential changes to your local Fire/EMS Station

From the Baynet:

" The county response to citizens needs didn't stop there. Members of the 2nd and 9th district's fire department and emergency management rescue squads presented a plan for a desperately needed new facility to be constructed soon, which will come at a small cost to taxpayers--a new capital expense and one which was well received by all of the commissioners. The Fire and EMS group had done their homework, and emphasized the time from rescue to hospital will be radically diminished. The cost of the new facility which will be state-of-the-art, staffed by all volunteers would raise taxes by $60 per $100,000 of assessed value. As was pointed out by the Commissioners how much would it cost the taxpayers if the county did not have an all volunteer force. By general agreement the Commissioners asked that some additional detail be worked on, and if a rate increase was requested in January it would be followed by a public hearing in February for input from all citizens. Again, the commissioners emphasized the theme that it was their job to respond to citizens needs so the more voices who speak to the issues at public hearings the better--the vocal majority as well as the vocal minority."

How does a new building cause the response time to be radically diminished?

Looks like the FD has the ear of the commissioners. Curious how a new firehouse is going to cut down response times if it remains in the same place.

I'm thinking the folks pushing for this feel a shiny new firehouse will have people tripping over themselves to join.
