Prosecutor says Bankman-Fried made "tens of millions of dollars” in illegal campaign contributions

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said at a press conference that Bankman-Fried made "tens of millions of dollars" in illegal campaign donations, presumably using the roughly $26 billion he commanded at the peak of his net worth.

Williams called the overall scandal surrounding Bankman-Fried "one of the biggest frauds in American history."

The fallen crypto mover is facing a wide variety of charges from prosecutors, including wire fraud, money laundering, and other crimes.

He could face decades in prison if convicted on those counts.

For your consideration ...

What I'm waiting for is the argument that for those that question his actions and/or demand his imprisonment, will be considered anti-semetic. It's coming, ya know it is.

And ........ Here it is. That didn't take too long.

Sam Bankman-Fried denied $250K cash bail offer after begging judge to be let loose over vegan diet, ADD

The hearing, which started at 10:30 a.m., was delayed several times, including over legal discussion on whether the well-connected Democratic donor could get bail, Eyewitness News Bahamas said.

Prosecutors maintained that the mogul once estimated to be worth $32 billion posed a clear flight risk, the local outlet said.

Bankman-Fried’s lawyer Jerome Roberts offered up the cash bail and for his client — who has already surrendered his passport — to wear an ankle bracelet in exchange for his release, Bloomberg reported.

Ferguson-Pratt said she needed time to consider the arguments because “rushed justice is no justice at all,” and later issued her decision, remanding Bankman-Fried into custody until a Feb. 8, 2023, court date.

The curious timing of ‘scammy’ Sam Bankman-Fried’s crypto-bust

Some members were said to be looking forward to a good grilling of the alleged fraudster, about what happened to the $8 billion that’s gone missing from his collapsed cryptocurrency exchange FTX.

And it is fair to say, some weren’t.

As it turned out, Democrats — and perhaps Republicans — were spared the embarrassment. SBF was conveniently arrested in the Bahamas, just hours before his Zoom testimony before Chairman Waters’ hearing.

She was oh so disappointed that SBF couldn’t appear, but the hearing would struggle on, hearing from FTX’s new bankruptcy CEO John Ray III about the extraordinarily lax record keeping in what he called a “paperless bankruptcy.” “Never in my career have I seen such a complete failure of corporate controls.”

Bahamas Chief Magistrate JoyAnn Ferguson-Pratt denied bushy-headed Sam Bankman-Fried’s petition to be released on bail, citing a “great” risk of flight — you don’t say — and ordered the former FTX CEO to be holed up with the Caribbean nation’s department of corrections until February 8th.

Sam, 30, protested the decision, telling Chief Magistrate Ferguson-Pratt that he couldn’t go to jail, mostly because he is vegan, and also because he’s ‘depressed.’ His Stanford law professor mother, Barbara, laughed when prosecutors described Sam as a ‘fugitive’. Sam also denied that he’d ever done anything wrong, and told the court he was planning to tell Congress that he could repay all of the people who have lost money ‘tomorrow’ if his assets are unfrozen, despite previously filing for bankruptcy.

Sam will be visiting with a nice facility known as Fox Hill, the Bahamas’ only prison. The UK Daily Mail described the jail as being well-known for overcrowding and unsanitary conditions, even describing it as a “third world hellhole.”

A Biden and Bankman-Fried connection emerging?

Thomas Lifson and other observers have noticed the strange kid-glove treatment that accused crypto-fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried has been getting since his arrest in the Bahamas after reportedly misappropriating and losing billions in customer funds.

It was natural to note the huge campaign funding Bankman-Fried delivered, particularly to Democrats, at least $40 million, making him their second-largest donor.

But now another shoe seems to be dropping, based on this report from Bonchie at Red State here:

Sam Bankman-Fried, the man at the center of the FTX scandal, is back on US soil after having been extradited from the Bahamas to face federal charges. Naturally, because our justice system is about as coherent as a two-year-old quoting Shakespeare, the notorious fraudster was immediately granted bail and is now spending the holidays with his family. The American oligarchy is alive and well.
But I digress, there’s a lot more to the FTX scandal than just Bankman-Fried’s fate, and one of the more interesting aspects of the entire ordeal is just how close many Democrats were to him. In fact, according to Politico, a Democrat operative and close advisor to Bankman-Fried named Sean McElwee had a direct backchannel setup with the White House.

... 'lack of mental stimulation' in jail. Meaning they didn't give him video games in jail to keep him occupied.
