Have you purchased a regulated firearm in Maryland

If you've purchased a regulated firearm in Maryland recently your personal information might be compromised.
The MSP farmed out your application to other agencies this past weekend.

https://marylandshallissue.com/2013/09/maryland-state-police-msp-sharing-personal-information/

They used non-vetted employees from other agencies to enter your personal data (name, address, SSN, phone number, firearm purchased) into an unsecured database.

MSI UPDATE - Maryland Shooters

By some accounts the database goes back to 2012. If you hold a security clearance on the base you could be compromised. Identity theft is a possibility. Read up on this and take some kind of action.

Thats how them b*tch's R
Why would those with a security clearance possible be compromised as well? Are they in the same database as those who apply for a permit?

If you have a clearance and your PII is compromised, it could effect your clearance. Has nothing to do with the database.

Ok, so would this be for those who've recently purchased a firearm? I know the article says they found records from 2012 but that doesn't mean anything older than that is accessible as well.

Mainly recent purchased (within the last 3 months) but someone found records on the unsecured database going back to 2012

Too bad that the Privacy Act of 1974 only applies to the federal government. However, I wonder if Chapter 11 of the Maryland Public Information Act could be used to fight it:
http://www.oag.state.md.us/Opengov/Chapter11.pdf

The statute also mandates that State agencies collect personal information from the person in interest to the greatest extent practicable. SG §10-624(c)(2). The person in interest is to be informed of: (1) the purpose for which the personal information is collected; (2) the consequences of refusing to provide the information; (3) the right to inspect, amend, or correct personal records;(4)whether personal information is generally available for public inspection; and (5) whether the information is shared with any other entity. SG §10-624(c)(3).

"MSP has put out a press release to assure you that since all of these temporary employees have promised not to share your information that you have nothing to worry about."
