It'll make ya feel good..
Anyone willing to share information or opinions about different health insurance companies?

I'm thinking of picking up Blue Cross Blue Shield.. any remarks?

Just hold on until next year. When the jackasses in blue take over the white house, you won't have to worry about healthcare. I'll be buying it for you.....:bigwhoop:

yeah yeah
When I had Bc/Bs it was the best! I now have another type of insurance, that I wouldnt recommend if the pope endorsed it! With BC/BS, I ended up paying out-of-pocket a total of 10.00 for skeeters birth. Hows that for ya! And every ER visit, and or dr visit was 0 to very limited amount of out of pocket. Also- someone mentioned the generic drug vs the actual rx.. it is true- the generic is cheaper if not at best, free- however, even with the actual rx, it wasnt killer. It was like 20 at most. Nothing that was completely terrible.

I compared all of the top insurance companies when I bought private health insurance and BC/BS had the best program.

I've had Empire BC-BS (NY), Anthem BC-BS (VA), and Carefirst BC-BS (MD). Each has a PPO and an HMO option. I had few if any complaints. The nice thing about having a BC-BS affiliated plan is that your insurance is good pratically everywhere, even international.

I currently have Anthem BC/BS. I've had better BC/BS, but this plan is OK. It's a PPO, and I prefer PPOs to HMOs. I like to choose my doctors and not have to have a referral. The co-pays are a bit more expensive, 20.00 for an OV and 40.00 for a specialist. The perscription co-pays are more expensive, 10.00-50.00 per prescription. All these are based on what plan the employer chooses for co-pays. Biggest thing I don't like, they don't cover birth control pills, but they'll cover a high risk pregnancy! Check the fine print for each policy.

If you would have asked me two weeks ago I would have 100% completely endorsed BC/BS. However recently I have become a little irritated with them.

Went the doctor because my knee was bothering me, was referred to an orthopedic doctor for that and also having flat feet. Orthopedic Dr said sounds like I tore/damaged my lateral meniscus. Since I am pretty young (24), he asked whether I had had any recent knee injury or anything, told him know and asked him if my feet could be the culprit/contributor, he said absolutely. They did XRays in office and my feet are FLAT so he referred my to Orpro to get custom insoles made for my shoes.

Went to see them and tell my why my 400 dollar insoles are not covered because apparently having flat feet is a "cosmetic" issue. I am now having to go round and round with them because they couldnt explain to me why they would cover aids to quit smoking to prevent having to pay for cancer treatment. etc, but they wont cover these insoles to prevent having to pay for MRI's and surgeries which I am already looking forward to my first one. Makes no sense to me what so ever. I think they might eventually cover them but now I am having to go the hassle of getting documentation from everyone and their brother supporting their "medical necessity" and even then they said they would only "consider" it.

Anyways, besides my rant, havent had any other problems with them!

Hillary mentioned it the other day, and the press kind of let it slide by without mentioning..

"I will stop President Bush's tax cuts to the rich to fund Universal Health Care!"

I think her free health care will cost a LOT more than that, but what do I know, I don't have 35 years of experience as... well.. yanno.. 35 years experience.. shoot, what has she done the last 35 years? I keep forgetting..

I have BC/BS and get Orthotics (custom insoles). I go to a place in Northern Virginia near the hospital in Alexandria and pay $100.

Could it be a timing issue? I have PPO coverage. My health care coverage is renewed on April 1st (for a lot of people, it is renewed on January 1st). Once April 1st rolls around, I have to meet my annual deductible before the insurance company contributes toward expenses.

I have a PPO as well and its not a timing issue. She said if I had a deformity, they would be covered but flat feet is considered a cosmetic issue.

Ummmmm ....
I have Carefirst and love it. I have had absolutely no problems with my insurance and I've had 6 surgeries under their coverage. I've never had to pay more than $25 to visit a doctor. My copays are:
$25 for a specialist
$10 for my primary care physician
$50 for an ER visit when I am not admitted to the hospital

My hospital stays are covered 100%.
My surgeries are covered 100.

Love it.
