“At her request, former Secretary Clinton’s security clearance was administratively withdrawn on August 30, 2018,” read the letter.
Critics of the former secretary of state have demanded that her security clearance be revoked on the basis that she defied official rules and regulations on security when she kept her own private email server.
The identity of the staffers included in the clearance revocation were redacted, except for that of Cheryl Mills, Clinton’s top aide.
Byron York of the Washington Examiner said the revocation gave Clinton cover to say it wasn’t done in a disciplinary action, but also said it will raise questions as to what happened behind the scenes.
“But given that the administration has already done this with John Brennan, the former CIA director, who really bashes the president at every opportunity these days,” York continued, “I think people are gonna want to look at this and say what exactly what went on behind this withdrawal, the clearance.”
