Ah, but when the perp is running down the street with your stuff and you are screaming, "stop thief" and the cop is standing there saying, "Sorry, I don't have a warrant." You might feel differently.

If the state issues the CCW permits it will all be solved.......

How so?

The MD bill allows officers to detain someone they suspect of commiting a crime.

NDAA allows the military to detain someon they suspect of being a terrorist indefinately.

Granted, the MD bill still allows due process, but how is it different? Because the NDAA protects us from those big, bad, terrorists?
You've answered your own question. Maryland law doesn't allow for a person to be detained indefinitely and it requires due process rules to be followed.

Also a police officer must be able to show probable cause that the person they are arresting is the criminal and allows them to intervene to prevent the continuation of the crime. The MD law in question is the one that allows a police officer to arrest someone fleeing from a crime without first going to a judge to request a warrant. It's the law that allows police officers to intervene in a crime in progress rather then letting them finish the crime and run away because the courts haven't indited the person yet.

I'm suprised Vrai & RR haven't commented on this one:
SB 755
Senator Young, et al
CONSUMING WINE NOT BOUGHT ON PREMISES – RESTAURANTS, CLUBS, AND HOTELS
Allowing an individual in a restaurant, club, or hotel for which a specified alcoholic beverages license is issued the privilege of consuming wine not purchased from or provided by the license holder; requiring, for an individual to exercise the privilege, that the wine be consumed under specified circumstances; requiring a local licensing board to issue a specified permit at no cost to specified license holders; authorizing a license holder to determine and charge an individual a fee for the privilege; etc.
EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2012

Starting in July I can charge you a ridicules amount to unscrew the cap on your own bottle of wine!:buddies:

There already was a lengthy thread on that topic...just within the past week or so. In a nutshell it simply waives the long-standing law that licensed establishments can only serve alcohol bought in strict accordance with the specific rules laid down in MD liquor laws; one of the very first such waivers or exceptions, in fact.:buddies:

Key word...

What about this law makes it any different than a cop being able to detain someone? If they see someone running froma crime scene, they can stop, and detain them for 24 hours.

Cops already intevene....

They intervene because this law exists. Basically only one word in the law was changed.
