Maryland House passes gun-control bill - baltimoresun.com
The House of Delegates voted Wednesday to give Maryland one of the toughest gun laws in the nation, passing a bill that would ban the sale of assault-type weapons, set a 10-bullet limit on magazines and require fingerprints and a license to buy a handgun.

Delegates altered the Senate's bill during more than 10 hours of emotional floor debate that lasted over two days. Key lawmakers said they expect the differences to be resolved quickly and the legislation sent to Gov. Martin O'Malley for his promised signature.

After the 78-61 vote, O'Malley said the House strengthened his proposal, which he has called his top legislative priority of the session.

"Maryland has stood up as a state to say that this is not acceptable and that military assault weapons have no place in a civil society," O'Malley said

Spoken like a true liberal. The masses are too stupid to handle something like an assault rifle. When 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of assault rifle owners possess them in a lawful, repsectful, disciplined manner that same 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999% will be punish for the 00.000000000000000000000000000000000000001%.

Now that's what I call a representative government :sarcasm:

Now that's what I call a prepresentative government :sarcasm:

Actually, it's called a representative democracy, since they ignored the existence of the constitution.

This is evil. Pure and simple. The gun IS civilization. The gun MADE society possible, made freedom for the individual possible.

And now, we want to take it away????

This is evil.

I'll accept that the people who assert this actually believe it when they advocate banning our military and law enforcement departments from having 'military assault weapons'. If we believe such tools have no place in a civil society, then why do we still allow them to be had in a civil society (e.g. by military or law enforcement)? And if they are needed by the government (e.g. the military or law enforcement), then it's axiomatic - at least in so far as is contemplated by the Second Amendment - that they are needed by citizens.

Also, who said this wouldn't happen? Perhaps a few did, but I think most people understood that much of this would pass at the state level. It's at the national level that substantial new gun control laws are probably DOA. Surprisingly, even this state level legislation was watered down significantly.

That said, yes, evil won another victory yesterday. Celebrate it if you are so inclined. Sneaky bastard that evil, charming SOB. Wrecks havoc and engenders near universal condemnation; yet in the end somehow gets its loudest critics to do its bidding - and then celebrate their having thusly been co-opted. It's like when a husband continually abuses his wife and, counter-intuitive though it may be, she seems to love him all the more for it (or maybe it's just fear manifest as submission) - tending to his every need, cooking his meals, gratifying his desires, making his home comfortable for him. An outside observer can do little more than scratch their head and wonder how such things happen. Sneaky bastard that evil, charming SOB.

Okay Tilted, I can’t articulate things the way you do but I will provide my down and dirty retort…

What a liberal believes:

Military is government. Law enforcement is government. They are trained by the government, therefore their abilities to handle assault rifles are superior to the ignorant ordinary citizen. It’s been proven that ordinary citizens are incapable of handling any sort of firearm, let alone ‘military style’ weapons. The only means to stop the madness is to take these dangerous things away from dangerous, untrained, ignorant people.

My personal retort:

The only means to keep citizens in line is for government to do it. The only way to keep the people in line is for government to take away the things that allow them to be dangerous; especially dangerous to the government.

No, no, no, no.

Liberalism, properly understood, is TOTALLY against restrictions on private ownership and bearing or arms.

We are talking about statists. Socialists. They WANT the military and the cops to be the only ones with guns BECAUSE THEY ARE GOVERNMENT controlled.

We really need a reset of terms. Obama, Feinstein, Moore, Mathews; statists, in favor of as much government control as possible. The economy, health, you name it.

This is about POWER. A liberal may not trust you or I with power, with a gun but, they trust the government a WHOLE lot less.

We were referring to the proposed Federal AWB...you don't know the difference, do you?

That MD would pass this pile of steaming crap was always inevitable.

Isn't it great?

I saw delegates and senators playing online games, ordering clothes online, reading the newspaper, playing on their cell phone, O'Malley poking his head in the House, vote changing, etc.

They rejected an ammendment that would make sure thoe people who commit a crime using a gun can't get good time off of their sentence, but added an ammendment that made it a crime if you didn't report your lost or stolen firearms.

Yea, for public safety.....you're delusional BigBlue.

Oh. let's not forget that they rejected an amendment that would allow off duty police officers to carry inside a school.

So, god forbid something happens at another school and an off duty cop lives near by....he'll have to stay in the parking lot.

Yea, for public safety.

I *think* this amendment got put back in and passed. Not 100%, but...

Later they did pass an amendment which will, with some conditions, allow off-duty police officers to carry their handguns in schools if they are there about their own child. I'll find the exact text of the amendment when I get back home.

If the officer was responding to a call like that, I think they'd effectively be on duty when they did whether they were previously scheduled to be or not.

And so is the M1 Carbine...an "assult weapon". When you stop laughing, think about this...do you think they know it helped secure THEIR freedoms during WWII and was also used in the Korean War. Yes, that Korea.

Rimfire weapons are exempt.
