"WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama will travel to Hiroshima this month in the first visit by a sitting American president to the site where the U.S. dropped an atomic bomb.

The White House announced the visit in a statement Tuesday morning, saying Obama will visit along with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during a previously scheduled visit to Japan.
Obama's visit will "highlight his continued commitment to pursuing the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapon," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said. The U.S. bombing at Hiroshima killed 140,000 Japanese on Aug. 6, 1945.

The president's visit has been widely anticipated since U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry visited the memorial to the Hiroshima bombing in April. Kerry toured the peace museum with other foreign ministers of the Group of Seven industrialized nations and participated in an annual memorial service just steps from the site's ground zero."

So for what? So he can bow to them and apologize as well? For America being stronger during the war and using "the bomb".

It was unessary to prolong the War past 1943, both Germany and Japan would have been willing to negotiate peace aggreements. Japan in this case wanted to surrender if they could keep the Emperor, US said no. They dropped the A-Bombs, Japan Surrendered and kept the Emperor.

Of course, these A-Bombs were not as bad as firebombing in Europe, look at the destruction of Dresden, no military purpose, full of people fleeing the Soviets and a hospital city. Destroyed thousands of years of art and learning along with millions of people.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki while less destructive unleashed the nuclear genie.

Yeah... how's that "we will set the example by reducing our bombs and our military and the rest of the world will follow" working out for us?

Russia to test unstoppable 'Satan 2' stealth nuke capable of wiping out an ENTIRE NATION

This terrifying doomsday weapon is likely to strike fear into the hearts of Western military chiefs, as current missile defense technology is totally incapable of stopping it.

China 'tests terrifyingly powerful Dongfeng-41 nuclear missile' which could destroy London in HALF AN HOUR

China has allegedly tested a weapon of mass destruction capable of hitting London and other major European or American cities in just 30 minutes.

The People's Republic reportedly fired a nuke called the Dongfeng-41, which has the longest range of any missile in the world.

It can carry up to 10 warheads over a distance of roughly 7,450 miles in just half an hour before hitting several targets at once.

After what happened on Okinawa it was obvious there would have been countless US lives lost if we had been forced to invade Japan. it took TWO atomic bombs before Japan agreed to surrender. after Pearl Harbor and what we learned what happened in the Philippines and elsewhere that they conquered unconditional surrender was the only surrender the Japanese deserved.

Dresden Casualties:

MILLIIONS??

The city authorities at the time estimated no more than 25,000 victims, a figure that subsequent investigations supported, including a 2010 study commissioned by the city council

25,000 certainly is still a lot, (in a war that claimed 60 Million lives) too many, but would it matter to you if those 25,000 Germans (at the time ENEMY) casualties shortened the war, and saved 100,000 Americans??

How many ISIS casualties today, would you consider worth saving one American life? Or allow one Christian to keep their head.. or one homosexual to NOT be thrown off a building??

I don't know why Truman dropped the bombs. According to Larry the Japanese didn't surrender because of the bombs they surrendered to keep the Russians away from them.
