Piece of Slate

Where can one buy locally in SOMD? I would prefer to pick it up without having to pay a lot for shipping from out of state. I tried Tri county Hearth and Patio but they have the piece for $140 then shipping is $160 so it makes the piece $300. There has to be some place I can get it local and pick it up in my truck!

Help?

I woud like a solid piece about 1/2" thick 20" deep X 72" wide I'm looking for a piece for in front of my fireplace for a hearth. That is what I have now and I like it but it isn't deep enough or wide enough.

Found the slate (or flagstone) for our hearth at Wentworth's nursery in Oakville. We used smaller 12"x12"x1" pieces but they certainly had bigger slabs too. Think we paid around $70 for 12 square ft. It was nice being able to dig through and pick what we wanted as well.

If you can't find the slate you're looking for, maybe a piece of custom granite countertop? It would definitely look classy.

Thought about that but to be honest the home I live in let's just say I feel it would look out of place. If I was in a different area and a nicer home (my home is nice just not the level I feel for granite) I would consider granite. The price of granite is higher as well.
