No. It was not Afghanistan. It was al-Qa'ida that attacked the Twin Towers.

Perception. If the U.S. is perceived as a bunch of wusses, then we will be attacked. We tip toed around the middle east. Carter was a wuss; the Iranians captured the U.S. Embassy and its staff. Reagan gets elected and is perceived as a strong President that will blast Iran into the stone age and the captives are released on inauguration day. Bush One stopped too soon then comes pity pat Clinton with here a bomb there a bomb with no sustained commitment to stopping those attacking U.S. interests or citizens and the U.S. is seen as weak again; -> the Twin Towers.

If you know a person that is 7 feet tall and has muscles of iron, but retreats from the 5 foot big mouth and never defends himself or anyone he loves, do you respect him? No. If he is patient and warns the big mouth and then smacks the big mouth into next week, you respect him.

There is a lot in the phrase walk softly but carry a big stick, but you have to be willing and able to use that stick once in a while.

Anyone notice a CRITICAL shift in rhetoric?

Sheehan said in a speech that she (they) are coming after congress people who supported the war. They still refer to it as an 'illegal' war but I think it of note that now they are actually acknowledging that congress voted FOR it.

Who knows? Maybe they'll get around to the UN resolutions or actually discussing the US war resolution? It's the end of the logic trail for the anti's but, what the hell.

memo to canada: why don't we take advice from a country that can stop pondering civil war for more than a few years at a time.
