That's odd. I've never had to re-apply except when the expiration period comes up. Otherwise, the new employer takes sponsorship of the existing clearance.

That is the way it works. Even if I left my current job to work at McDonald's, then came back to work for the government, if my clearance hasn't expired it's still good.

Exactly. That's why I'm not sure why h3mech would claim to have to re-apply each time they left a govt connected job.
