For those who have or haven't heard, Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor in Bowie, Maryland will be shutting down at the end of the 2025 season. It's been going down in the trenches for quite a while. I haven't been there in over 20 years. But who remembers when it used to be called Wild World and Adventure World?

Never went to Six Flags - but until today I didn’t know that its predecessor was Wild World which I remember.

Bad neighborhood, rough clientele. I'm surprised they've held on this long.

What is wrong with Bowie ?

The ' address ' maybe Largo but the park is a lot further down the road ... this is no slum neighborhood .,...
the problem is not the neighborhood, but that roaches have cars and are mobile
to the best of my knowledge SF never had fights like break out at Disney ....

I agree with you, Bowie is about the only nice area of Prince Georges left.

1sr a Wild Life Preserve run by the Mutual of Omaha Wild Kingdom Guy there still remnants of wild animal cages on the back 40

Wild World
Adventure World - when Adventure World had the countries largest water park wave pool [ downsized in the late 90's ]
Six Flags

A park has sat at this location in Prince George’s County for more than 50 years, after Texas billionaire Ross Perot and two Irish animal trainers proposed in the early 1970s establishing a wildlife preserve on what was then about 400 acres of corn and tobacco fields. ABC ended up buying out Perot and his partners and opening the preserve in 1974, but sold the park two years later, citing massive losses.

The park, which was later renamed Wild World, changed hands a few more times before it was acquired by Six Flags and rebranded Six Flags America in 1999. A refurbished version of the park opened in 2006 under the leadership of Daniel Snyder, the former owner of the Washington football franchise, who led the Six Flags corporation before it went into bankruptcy.

Park Management TRIED to work with PG County Council and Maryland State Gov to promote the park [ after Rushern Baker was elected ]
NONE of the Democrats give a damn about having a National Theme Park located in MD.

NOT for Summer Jobs, not for prestige ... just don't give a damn

And yeah since the problems of the 90's Whites think the Park is Ghetto and would rather drive several hours to Kings Dominion in VA .. then 40 min to Six Flags

Six Flags Entertainment, the amusement park’s parent company, announced Thursday it plans to sell the 500-acre property for redevelopment, shutting down Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor in Bowie at the end of this year’s season in November because it was “not a strategic fit with the company’s long-term growth plan,” Six Flags President and CEO Richard A. Zimmerman said in a statement.

“Everybody’s talking about that today,” Rushern Baker, a former county executive and longtime booster of Prince George’s said. “It’s a major, major loss for us in the county, and major part of our summer youth employment operations.”

Unless something changed after I left in 2014 I'm calling bullshit .... as I said the park management could NOT get county or state Gov to give more then Token promotion ...

The visitors aren't the problems, its the locals that get dropped off 6 days a weeks because mommy bought them a summer pass to use as a baby sitter. We put irrigation in the then, general managers home in Bowie, she explained all of the problems that the park has and had.

The last several years, too many links to post.

Having said that, I don't know how many of my students worked there summers over the years, many for several years running. Some of the jobs were a bit exploitative and some were just normal park type jobs. I told the boys that it could be a target rich environment for them if they paid attention.
