LEONARDTOWN, MD – The Board of Education of St. Mary’s County will hold a retreat on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at The Riverview Restaurant at Wicomico Shores, 35794 Aviation Yacht Club Road, Mechanicsville, MD 20659. The retreat will begin at 1:00 p.m. No official business will be conducted during this time. For more information, please call 301-475-5511, extension 32177.
With temperatures dipping, Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) fifth graders are taking the plunge. The CCPS water safety program is in its fourth decade teaching students the basics of water safety.

Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) fifth-grade musicians jammed Saturday during an Instant Concert at St. Charles High School. Before taking the stage, band and orchestra students in elementary school learned the music they would perform within hours from CCPS music teachers and high school students who served as mentors.

The Eagles — a VEX Robotics team from North Point High School — was named a tournament champion at the Jan. 21 VEX Robotics Southern Maryland Showdown competition. Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) is hosting its annual winter chess tournament in person at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Henry E. Lackey High School. The tournament is open to chess players in Grades kindergarten-12 with spectators allowed to view the event.

Students in Grades 9-12 who attend Henry E. Lackey, La Plata, Maurice J. McDonough, Thomas Stone and Westlake high schools can earn high school graduation requirements outside of the regular school day by completing an extended-day course for original credit. The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) today released student data for the spring 2022 MCAP assessments in mathematics and English language arts. Students across Maryland completed the MCAP, or Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program, for the first time in 2022 since the launch of the state’s new assessment tool. The MCAP administration was delayed for three years due to the pandemic.
