Charles Co. Summer School, Summer Boost students and staff are eligible to participate in voluntary COVID testing
Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) students who are enrolled in Summer School or Summer Boost, as well as staff members who are working at the programs, are eligible to participate in free COVID-19 PCR testing. The testing program is voluntary, CCPS does not require any staff or student to participate in COVID testing.

Charles Co. La Plata sophomore pens original music composition — Joins CCPS students for national ACT-SO competition
A lot of kids like listening to music, Isaiah DeLeonard likes composing it. The rising sophomore at La Plata High School spent nearly six months penning and arranging his first full composition “War March.” Written for a full orchestra, the composition was inspired by one created by Mark Lortz, a composer and music arranger.

It was years in the making and will take a while to bloom but the bird and butterfly garden at J.C. Parks Elementary School was officially opened June 13. Situated at the front of the school, the garden was dedicated to Deanna Wheeler, the school’s science teacher who was instrumental in making Parks a forerunner in green-centric programs.

C. Paul Barnhart Elementary School has been recognized as one of the top schools in the country for its use of Imagine Learning, a provider of digital curriculum. LEONARDTOWN, MD – Chopticon High School will be closing early today, June 14, 2022, due to high temperatures. Repairs to the cooling system are underway, but will not be completed until later today. Chopticon HS will follow the early release schedule, dismissing at approximately 12:45 PM.
Charles Co. Nearly 2,100 students graduate from Charles County Public Schools as members of the Class of 2022
More than 13,500 people watched nearly 2,100 Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) students graduate as members of the Class of 2022. Graduations were held outdoors May 31, June 1, 2 and 3 at Regency Furniture Stadium.

The Board of Education of Charles County recently honored 101 employees who have retired during the past school year or who had notified Superintendent Maria Navarro that they plan to retire at the end of this school year.
