The rising sophomore at La Plata High School spent nearly six months penning and arranging his first full composition “War March.” Written for a full orchestra, the composition was inspired by one created by Mark Lortz, a composer and music arranger. It was years in the making and will take a while to bloom but the bird and butterfly garden at J.C. Parks Elementary School was officially opened June 13. Situated at the front of the school, the garden was dedicated to Deanna Wheeler, the school’s science teacher who was instrumental in making Parks a forerunner in green-centric programs. C. Paul Barnhart Elementary School has been recognized as one of the top schools in the country for its use of Imagine Learning, a provider of digital curriculum.
