When I went to St Michael’s School, I had a kid in my class that always sat out religious instruction and never went to mass on Fridays with the rest of the school- he was an atheist.
My beef with Catholic schools is just what @stgislander said - priests are moved around for a reason and that is to fix a problem. 20+ years ago, SMC got a priest who was a money man - he had connections to rich people and could raise a lot of money to get the parish out of financial trouble. 10+ years ago, we got a pastor who’s purpose was to close the school. The ADW didn’t know what they were up against because we, the community was not going to allow the school to close. That priest was moved after a couple years when they realized he wasn’t going to be successful closing us.
My other problem with the Catholic culture is that the pastor is the “pope” when it comes to decisions of the parish. Regardless of what the parish council believes or the community wants, the pastor makes the FINAL decision.
