I fully intend to do it the first time I hear it played in public.
But June 19th (Juneteenth) wasn't when slavery officially ended. It wasn't until 6 December 1865 when the 13th Amendment (passed by Congress on 31 January 1865) was ratified and became law of the land. June 19th was when Union troops arrived in Galveston to enforce General Order #3 (the tenets of the Emancipation Proclomation that freed only those slaves in states rebelling against the Union). The keening over Juneteenth just boggles my mind. Are we really that effing retarded that we'll bitch about a federal commemoration of the end of slavery in this country??
So, at least for me, the celebration/holiday should commemorate either the passing of the amendment, its ratification or maybe even the date of Lincoln's Emancipation Proclomation. Hell, it could be three holidays all unto itself.
Well, duh! Its been celebrated in Galveston since 1866.Juneteenth has been a thing for at least 3 decades because I remember doing PSAs for it when I worked at Tester in the late 80s. This isn't something new they made up yesterday.
Isn't that a better name for Black Friday? That's like Boxing Day in Canada has nothing to do with boxing .![]()

Don't recall any mention of it at the last Rabble Convention. Maybe it will be a topic of discussion at the next Son's of the Confederacy get together. You clearly know that but apparently the masses do not.
That's why I think it should be called freedom day.Hell, it could be three holidays all unto itself.
I agree. Although Sept 22nd or Jan 31st may make more sense, Jun 19th is the day Blacks chose to celebrate. So maybe it is and they chose to commemorate it on June 19. Who cares?

It has been known as Jubilee Day, Freedom Day, Liberation Day, and Emancipation Day, in reality it is for Galveston "when we found out day".That's why I think it should be called freedom day.

Well, duh. Evidently my attempt at humor was nothing more than a flyby.Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. Boxing Day is 12/26.
Well, I mean, it's their emancipation so...I agree. Although Sept 22nd or Jan 31st may make more sense, Jun 19th is the day Blacks chose to celebrate.
The dark ones blasted the sheit out of each other all over the country yesterday. Guess that's how you celebrate when yr that color..??Did you guys enjoy the fireworks to celebrate Black Independence Day last night? Charles County must have put on quite a display in Waldorf last night. I couldn't see them for the trees, but I started hearing them about 9:30 pm until 11:30 pm. Some sounded suspiciously like gunfire, but we have laws against that! Right?![]()
Maybe we can make my 15th birthday a federal holiday. After all, that's when I became gainfully employed and a taxpayer.Well, I mean, it's their emancipation so...![]()
