Ok I ll take a shot at this the number to me is ilrevelant but in Biblical numerology the number 10 represents devine perfection.
Where you come up with nobody being around, thats not Biblical at all there were masses of people waiting at the bottom of the mountain.

Now lets look at the purpose of the law.
<DIR>Psa 19:7 The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple;
Psa 19:8 the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;
Psa 19:9 the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether.
Psa 19:10 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.
Psa 19:11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward.
Psa 19:12 Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults.
Psa 19:13 Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me! Then I shall be blameless, and innocent of great transgression.
The Isrealites were God's chosen people they were to be set apart and differnt than all the other nations that were heathens worshiping false gods and idols.

The law is a school master it open our eyes to sin notice in the verse it says I would not have know sin had it not been for the law. By having 10 differnt laws pointing out what God finds intolerable. It helps us in our relationship to him and the depravity of man.

<DIR>Rom 7:7 What then shall we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. For I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, "You shall not covet."
Rom 7:8 But sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of covetousness. For apart from the law, sin lies dead.
Rom 7:9 I was once alive apart from the law, but when the commandment came, sin came alive and I died.
Rom 7:10 The very commandment that promised life proved to be death to me.
Rom 7:11 For sin, seizing an opportunity through the commandment, deceived me and through it killed me.
Rom 7:12 So the law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good.
Rom 7:13 Did that which is good, then, bring death to me? By no means! It was sin, producing death in me through what is good, in order that sin might be shown to be sin, and through the commandment might become sinful beyond measure.

(1)In the first God says I am it you are to worship no other Gods
there were A Lot at that time.
(2) No Idols again the belived and put there trust in all kinds of strange things. Todays Idols are things that take your focus off God and that you love more than him. Idols can also be the image of God or Christ you create in your mind that you can live with that arent Biblical. Like when you here the comment my God would never send anyone to hell. There right because its a false Giod they created in their minds and not the one true God of the Bible
(3)Gods Name is Holy and to be treated with reverance, and not used as a cuse word or used cassually. Changing it to Gee wiz does not change anything all this does is subconsiously lowers our view of God and reverance for him its still a sin!
(4) The sabbath is imortant for to reason one man needs a day of rest. God gave us an example himself in Genesis 1 on the seventhday he rested. Also we should glady set aside a day just for him to keep our thoughts fully on him and enter into worship and fellowship with him.
(5) Honor you father and mother if you have no respect for your earthly parents than you have no respect all all fully living for your self so how can you be obiednt to God?
(6)You shall not murder heres what Jesus Said
<DIR>Mat 5:22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, 'You fool!' will be liable to the hell of fire.
God judges our thoughts and our heart as well as our actions.
(7) Adultery looking with lust is just as bad, again hes seeing the heart.
<DIR>Mat 5:28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
(8)You shall not steel
Besides the fact that it could cost you your hand in that culture it greavious to God
(9) Bear False whitness, we are not to lie to hang someone and proffit from it we are to people of integerity where our word means something.
(10) Covetness this is a sin that can lead to another like steeling or can consume our thought and leave us unhappy with all the blessing God has all ready given us it makes one discontent. its also a form of greed.

If God said only one commandment die to self he could have done that because self lays at the root of all sin, but he didnt he gave us something better.

If you want to put God first in your life why would you have an issue with a guide on how to do that.
would you rather he didnt tell you of course not! God is JUST in order for him to be JUST we have to know the rules. Considering that if he judges you by these on judgement day would you be innocent or guilty?
If you broke one thats like breaking them all which we all have done. So who's paying your fine you cant do it. Have you turned from your sin in humility confessed them, ask forgiveness of them and put your trust in Jesus Christ as your LORD and Savior or are you guilty and need to face your eternal punishment?

<DIR>Rom 3:21 But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it--
Rom 3:22 the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction:
Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
</DIR>
<DIR>Eph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
Eph 2:9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
</DIR>

About 5,000 years ago a bunch of religious and political hustlers got together to try to figure out how to control people and keep them in line. They knew people were basically stupid and would believe anything they were told, so they announced that God had given them some commandments, up on a mountain, when no one was around.

Well, you either have it all figured out or... well read the bolded area above.

Thou shalt keep thy religion to thyself.

I don't suppose it would be appropriate for me to assume you would keep your opinion to yourself? You know... ask you to give your right to free speech? Sort of like you're asking believers to give up their right to practice their religion?

Carlin, however, is extremely funny when he's talking about slow drivers, or men vs. women, or drunks, or any of that crap... but when he starts in about politics or religion, that edge of funniness kind of dulls, and he instantly becomes just some opinionated old guy mouthing off.

I can get that over at my parents house.

I dunno, I still get a kick out of some of his older stuff, like when he said he had churches in his neighborhood like "Our Lady of Perpetual Motion" and stumped his priests all the time. Like when he asked what happens if you're travelling on a ship and one forgets to confess when Lent is over and it's too late...but then you cross the International Date Line?

And in regards to the 10 Commandments, Jesus pretty much boiled it down to two:

"Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." - Matthew 22:37-40

And if we had six fingers on each hand 12 would be 'devine'.. and our number system would be 12 based not ten. Not much of a revelation there.

I love Ron White, and that whole blue collar thing..except Larry.
I think Ron is the funniest of them! Larry can be funny, but it's too much of a character. Jeff is funny, but one note played over and over again gets unfunny too quickly.
