Waffle tots is Monello's favorite waffle iron food. Thaw the tots, then waffle iron them. Nom nom nom....

On Diners and Drive-ins you see different foods being cooked in a waffle iron on occasion.
One place he visited made stuffing waffles and then put the rest of the Thanksgiving dinner on top of it - Turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and topped with a dollop of cranberries. Almost made me want to get a waffle iron.

I think I'd try the hash browns and the apples. I'm actually one of the few people who prefers not to have a lot of edge on brownies so don't know about that one.

But a royal mess to make.

Poured the batter in, closed the lid, all looked good. After what I thought was a good amount of time, I opened the lid and tested. It appeared done, but was so soft it falls apart trying to get it out. Ok, a few more minutes...

Tried again, still way too soft to remove, just breaks apart. Finally got it all out, but it's in a brazillion pieces. And within a few minutes of cooling, every piece is a crispy critter. Talk about crispy edges...

So I poured the 2nd (and last) batch in, cooked it, opened the lid and turned it off. Going to let it cool in-place and see if it comes out whole.

If not, the crispy pieces will be fine for mixing into ice cream.

Well, the last one wasn't just crispy edges, it was pretty much rock hard all the way through. I guess I just baked it too long, but it's hard to tell when it's done. And it's also very soft when hot, so it doesn't remove well from the iron. I just used a Ghiardelli mix right from the box, the formula might need to be tweaked. I have a different iron, a "pro" version that flips over, so maybe that will work better. Just a pain to clean.

BROWNIE WAFFLE UPDATE:

Ghiardelli from a mix
Flip style Belgian waffle maker
Cooked for 7 minutes

The first one crumbled when I tried to remove it, so I tilted it upright and was able to ease it out instead of lifting. That seemed to do the trick:

Once they cool they are like a big plate of brownie edges - YES!
