10 yr old Purebred Yellow Lab at Tricounty - NO LONGER AVAILABLE

This poor guy has been at the shelter for about a month. I can't imagine a 10 yr old dog, living that long and then spending it's final days at the shelter.

Anyone have room in your home and heart for a senior homeless dog?

Please check him out - run, don't walk, who know's how much longer he'll be there?

Ol Yeller

Try it now, I fixed it.

I don't know anything about him other than what it says on his picture page. A phone call to the shelter with his ID number can get you the information they have on him though.

What a sad face. It is a shame hes at the shelter. No matter what the circumstances, I would never surrender an amimal that old. Its like shipping off grandma and never looking back. Couldnt do it. I only wish I could take him.

Unfortunately yesterday was his last day. How sad that he spent his last month in the shelter.

PLEASE WHEN YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A NEW ANIMAL CHECK THE SHELTER - THERE ARE A NUMBER OF HIGHLY ADOPTABLE DOGS AND CATS JUST WAITING FOR ANOTHER CHANCE AT A GOOD HOME!

This makes me sick and I cry as I type this. Who could just take their pet to the shelter to die alone. It saddens me greatly to think we live in a society that turns the other cheek to the only species that offers us unconditional love. I was on the phone with my dad asking him to please offer this old guy a chance to live the rest of his life with him when I found out I was too late and I will be the one to sick not to sleep tonight unlike the owners who just disregarded him like he was nothing.

Do we know why he was taken to the shelter?

Don't know, also don't know if he was an owner surrender, a stray or how he wound up being there. BUT I don't believe a dog lives to be 10 yrs old and then winds up a stray with no one looking for him, unless that is the owner's intent to begin with at that point.

What if....The owner died, no family close that could take the dog (maybe family could not afford to care for him) & he had to be brought to the shelter.
I just don't like to assume.

I'll give you that those are all possibilities.

Unfortunately I would venture to guess, that 98% of the time, when these dogs come in, they come in because someone no longer cares and they are either turned loose to become a "stray" or they are taken to the shelter and told they are a "stray", or sometimes the owner has enough balls to admit that they are "dumping" their beloved family member :sarcasm: .

greyhound, take a walk through the shelter sometime and read some of the reasons these dogs are surrendered. I can't think right off that I have seen any "reason" that couldn't have been worked with. AND yes, I have seen dogs that were surrendered by a family member after a death that they were unable/unwilling to keep.

I know a POS lady that took her dogs (one of them was a 13 yr old beagle) to the shelter because she was tired of taking care of them.

Well this post was very depressing. k_k, what you do to help out these dogs is wonderful but please make sure the animal is still available before posting that they are in need of a home.

I'm sure some folks don't want to be burdened w/ the geriatric care of an old dog/cat...the vet bills, arthritis meds, etc...Its a shame...so sad for the animals...

I only posted that because so many people are assuming... I rescue greyhounds and a lot of rescued Greys are returned. But the rescue has to take them back, no questions asked.

Sometimes people fall on hard times and can no longer take care of their pets. They have no choice, and like you said some people don't want to be bothered with a pet at some point. It's sad whatever the reason.

Thanks and trust me had I known he wasn't available, I wouldn't have posted him. Although sometimes a post like this is a wake up call. Like I said, how many of us are guilty of seeing his picture and doing absolutely nothing, thinking that "surely" someone would get him out of that place.

We are currently doing heartworm treatment on a senior black lab that we pulled a couple of months ago. "I" thought we were pulling him to give him someplace to die, after getting pulled and going to the vet though, he is spry and still has a couple of good years to give a loving home.

Adopting a senior animal can enrich your life in ways you can only imagine.

I know they can really make a wonderful addition to a family. I wish I could take more in but I am at my limit right now. I have 5 dogs right now that we took in, two of which are now becoming seniors. If I had more room and time, I'd be in trouble,,, people would think I'm :gossip: hoarding!!
