Well, this is my first @#%* post,
so I'll just give you a little history.
I grew up in St. Mary's Co., and
after 19 years I gave it the heave
oho!.......good bye, I ain't commin'
back........well, I am eating my words
sort to speak......I am back!!! Not
physically, but thru the use of these
develish machines called computers.
I just wanted to see what was up
in good ol' St. Mary's Co. after departing
a couple of moons ago, o.k. 9 years.
I have been surfing here off and on
for about 1 year and have decided
to jump into this mess.......I don't
know if there is a welcoming commitee
or just a sign that reads "Please Seat
Yourself".............Hello All

Well?

Okay, ya left here and ain't never coming back? I was here back in the mid-to-late eighties and swore if I ever got out of here, I would leave the country before I would come back.
Well, here I am again...back in St. Mary's County. I met my wife here, I'm raising my daughter here, we have a lot of friends here.
So how is your life, wherever the hell you wound up?
P.S. Do you miss it? Why are you on this website?

Taz, I grew up in St. Mary's Co.
from 75' to 93', needed a change,
I was homesick very much so.....
but I swore not to tuck my tail and
head from home when things got
ruff.........well, it did get tuff......I moved
to Florida, just on a whim........I was 23,
well 10 years later, I am still in Florida
and doing Great.....I have only visited
maybe twice back to St. Mary's, but I
still read that trashy St. Marys Today
online and I check SOMD.com about
3 or 4 times a week.......I still got some
old friends, but I hardly every contact
them........maybe I should, I wouldn't mind
another visit back............but all my family
left St. Mary's after I did, so I don't really
have a connection anymore except my
past experiences in St. Mary's, which was
great, I am glad I grew up there.

Is it still a nice place?.........I would imaginge
over the past 10 years that the population
has increased........it use to be so nice.........
I had lots of friends and great times........BTW,
you don't meet alot of people from Maryland
outside of Maryland.......not many like to make
a move apparently.

Crabby,
I left here in '89 and moved to Jacksonville, FL. I came back here in 2000. What a change!
A lot of the Mom and Pop type places have closed since the big chains started moving in. Construction is really booming. The major problem with all the growth is the infrastructure to support it is years behind (i.e. roads, schools, etc.). The traffic is nothing like is was years ago -- sometimes it really sucks. Widening of 235 is an ongoing project, but to date it just seems like it is a bigger parking lot.
Though there are more places to shop, but it was a drastic change from Jacksonville. There has been a good influx of places to eat, and most of the ones that were open years ago are still here.
The nightlife in St. Mary's is kinda slow, but I am too. There are quite a few places to go out and have a drink, but if you are looking for live bands, dancing, etc. you need a designated driver, cause you have to go a long way most of the time.
Maybe it's just me and the fact that I have pretty much settled down and don't run like I used to, but the people seem a lot friendlier than they were when I was here before. Then again there are a lot of people who have moved here in the last 10 years, so the locals are more used to us imports.

Taz,

Sounds like the population is
booming.........that always seems
to f*&k things up.......my favorite
places probably do not exist anymore,
and knowing all your neighbors will
no longer exist, I bet there are housing
delvelopments going up at an
astronomical rate...........I just don't
like that........I liked it unpopulated,
but that's just me.........I like lot of room.
I really liked the St. Georges Island and
Tall Timber areas the best........I grew up
around crabbers and good ole boys.....I
really moved out because in the early 90's
it started to get really expensive and I lost
my job at the base due to military cut backs
........and yes I did like to go see live bands and
just hang out on weekend nights........going
to Solomon's was almost required......Crabby

Heck is the Skate Station still around? LOL
I doubt it...........I used to go to that alot
during my early high school years, now I
roller blade at the part on nice sunny days.
Thanks for the reply.

Is OCI still open near the Harry Lundenberg School?

That used to be in Callaway. They tore the whole building down. There's a Food Lion shopping center in that area now.
